I'm having a Google issue. The 'cache' and 'similar pages' links are completely missing from my search reaults, regardless of what I search. The strange thing is I only have this problem on my home PC, so I'm wondering if there is some issue with my settings/preferences.
Just to clarify - I know that some sites can request that their pages not be indexed by Google, thus making the cache link not appear, but I can do the exact same seach terms from my computer at work and will still see the cache results.
Anyone know what the problem could be?? Thanks a bunch

My wireless USB adaptor had been malfuctioning as of late, so i'd been playing around trying my other USB ports. Anyways, I pulled it out of one of the USB ports, and somehow this restarted my computer. Now when it goes to "check my disks for consistency" instead of scanning my harddrive, this message appears:
"the \pagefile.sys entry contains a nonvalid link"
Does anybody know if I can fix this? I can't do it through windows because it won't let me get to that point. Thanks in advance.

I have plugged directly into the shaw modem at the slow times and it seems to not make a difference.
Shaw has been out 5 times and whenever they come it is working well. I;m starting to get ****ed off at them.

1) Check your antennas. Make sure they're perfectly straight up and down. Use a level if you have to.
2) Check the "channel" you're using on your wireless. It'll be a number from 1-12. Usually it's set to 6. No one one ever changes this number, so all the wireless networks around you are probably using channel 6 as well. Change it to something else.
3) Call Shaw and see if they're doing any maintenance around your area.

This is a pretty good speed tester:
http://www.dslreports.com/stest?loc=97
Something about ~3300 kbps on the download is about average for a non shaw extreme connection.
We had a major problem here in Hillhurst 3 weeks ago - brutal line speeds, HD not working. I put in a call, but it turns out some of the networking equipment in the area was on the fritz, not anything on my end. Apparently they've fixed it - I now get HD but I'm no where near those speeds...hmm time for a service call perhaps....

That would say to me that it is a Shaw issue. Does it happen at regular times?

Just did IHH's site
dslreports.com speed test 2006-10-29 16:55:57 EST:
556 / 323 (Kbps)
(67.8 / 39.4 KB/sec)
Compared to the average of 439 tests from shawcable.net:
* download is 87% worse, upload is 50% worse
That sounds pretty ****ty to me. Do you think they will cut my bill 87% for the last three months? Ya I know they won't.

I had the same problem earlier this year, fotze. I called Shaw and they came out and checked things out. Much like your problem, sometimes it would be up to speed and other times, much to slow. For instance, tsn.ca would take forever to load.
It was a problem with my modem and they brought me a new one. They switched my old one to a Motorola Sufrboard SB5101.

I'd phone Shaw and give them a piece of your mind. That's worse then terrible. I thought mine was bad where it hung around 1200Kbps for about 8 months this year. Like you I wasn't getting what I was paying for. Shaw will blame your computer, for what it's worth.

Yeah, phone them for sure.
I've had a bad cable modem before and got it traded, so just tell them your modem's broken if they give you grief.

There is an interesting sale on memory here:
http://www.ca.buy.com/product.aspx?s...omp&adid=17735
It says it is memory for a Macbook Pro.
What would make it so special that you couldn't use it in any notebook
computer that requires the same specs as this memory??
Mine requires " Up to 2 GB of DDR2 533/667 MHz memory, upgradeable to 4
GB using two soDIMM modules (dual-channel support)"
Shouldn't this memory work??
Thanks,
ers

I'm having some computer troubles...
Theres this icon in the bottom corner of my screen (I have XP) that keeps blinking and saying I have "critical errors". When I click on it it sends me to a spy ware remover sight.
I think the spy ware remover installed it on my computer to get me to buy spy ware. How can I get rid of this? Its changed my home page and won't let me open pdf documents (which is very important to me) anymore.
Any help will be very much appreciated.

Windows Defender
Ad-Aware
Spybot S&D
Run them all. If they don't work there is HiJackThis, but you may want some help with this.

Just ran Windows defender. It said there was no unwanted/harmful stuff on my computer, which is clearler wrong. I still can't open PDF files, change my home page and I still have that flashing icon on the bottom corner of my screen.
What is HiJack This?

If all else fails you can use System Restore to take your computer back to a time before you aquired this intruder.
It's in Accessories then System Tools on my computer.

Here is a good site for getting specific help digging this junk out. SWI Forums.
They will get you to run HiJack This (found here) and create a log so they can see specifically what you have, and then they will tell you how to fix it.
Otherwise, you will need to do a System Restore or Re-install of your OS

This is such a newbie question but how to you get sig's to show up in outlook express. Also how to I maintain the formatting on the sig. Anytime I add formatting to removes it when I enter it into outlook express.

thats a nasty one...
if your lucky, system resore may do it, but i had to remove the drive from a friends machine, put into another, and then delete the file that way
unfortunately, i think youll find that those progs wont do much...
