A cool moment happened when I hit Hall in his own zone, breaking his stick. As he skates back to the bench to grab a new stick, I skate up that wing with the puck. Instead of continuing towards the bench, he pins me to the boards and a teammate of his takes the puck away. I thought it was cool how the AI did that.

Played it at a friends.
This is the first major step they have made since 07. If the game stability is there then I am going to have a very large crow to eat. And maybe a Gold account to purchase. HUT is more interesting than any other online mode I have come across.
Really looking forward to playing as the Hitmen.

When I went for the big hit my guy would always duck down for the hip check. Anyone know what I am doing wrong?
Also, one other small difference is that when you pass the puck to another play you automatically have control of that player after it leaves the passers stick. Just a small change that I noticed.

You're pushing down the R3 button.
Ya now you can pass slightly ahead of the receiver, take control and use the hustle button to get around a defender. Fun stuff.

I expected to be a little more impressed, but I was still pleased with how everything has come together in the demo. HUT (or whatever name they are settling on) is quite a bit more fun than I had anticipated. This is the first mode that may actually pry Be a GM from my hands. The online aspect of it is pretty cool.
I did have one problem last night where after several tournaments I finally got to the 3rd round against chicago, only to have my goalie's contract run out. I had no 3rd goalie, so it wouldn't let me play a game. Perhaps there was an area with contract cards, but I didn't see it. Pretty disappointed I had to turn it off and go to bed.
There is something with the passing this year. I'm a big player switcher, I do it even when it's unnecessary. Normally this isn't a problem, but if hit the player switch button (which is also a pass) during a pass it starts up a one-timer pass fest.

Ahhhhh. ^^ That would explain it. I'm hitting the change player button when it's not needed. Thanks!
That being said, I LOVE the passing. I turned the pass power way up in the last game and hated the authentic passing (variable speed with variable pressure). It seems to really work well and this year when I need to get it through defenders it feels great to charge up a sharp pass. I also like the fact that many players can't take those passes ... adds a great deal of strategy.
The default settings seem to be much more my style this year. Last year it took me a very long time to tweak everything to get it to where I wanted it. This year it almost feels like it's ready to go right out the gate.
I tried the authentic puck size but found I lost track of it often. It's incredible how small it is and how big of a difference it can create.
Hits are wonderful. I like how you can't just throw a check when you aren't really moving. You can push off guys, but you can't throw a proper check without momentum. I also noticed when you pin a guy against the boards they push back which is welcome.

Wait a second. You guys are playing already? I plan on spending the next few weeks tweaking the sliders!

I was a bit worried about the pace of the game initially, but I am really starting to enjoy it.
I love love love the ability to hip check guys. In battle for the cup mode I've really cranked Hossa as he tries to split the d. Hammering guys into the turnbuckle at the bench is pretty great too.
Also loving the passing, the cross creaser has been real tough to pull off, which is a noticeable improvement. So is dangling through 3 guys. I hope the EASHL tuner set is similar to this one, because if it isn't, that mode will probably have a hard time grabbing my attention compared to all the other new stuff this year.

You'd think being a d partner with dobbles would have been good enough.

Real men always tweak their slider before playing NHL.
Wait, what?
But ya, that post last year was golden.

TOE DRAGS!!! omfg... FINALLY!
Also, noticeable that faster forwards can get by defencemen.
Also, one more question... what's the 'speed burst' button on xbox?

In EASHL I'm looking forward to the Flash/Dobbles simultaneous hip-check sandwich from both sides of one cherry picker. I used do that all the time in NHL FACEOFF 97 and the guy would twist and fly, I can't wait to try that in this game.

I think dobbles and I could be a good pairing again this year.
I know he likes to think he is a DFD, but I know in his heart he wants to jump right up and drive the net.
This year with my newfound abilities to kill guys (two game misconducts already, two injuries and three painful looking hip checks to one knee) and my physical prowess, hanging back should be much more fun.

That game was hilarious. All it took is one button press and your guy would hip check across the whole screen.

i would love to be an OFD, but too many times i am the only one that stays back there! while i certainly am no nick lidstrom, i have been the lone fata on way too many odd man rushes to remember over the last 2 years!
and once i finally changed my camera i have turned in to a decent forward.

my initial reaction was kind of like "oh, sweet...it's more of what I love, with some minor changes"
...after spending all last night playing the demo, I'm officially blown away by how many new scenarios pop up thanks to the new mechanics. The game flows just so much better. The new puck and bodycheck phsyics are freaking amazing.
New experiences I've had so far:
Goal waived off due to it going in off of Hartnell's skate, only for it to get reviewed and overturned.
Goal waived off due to what was a clear high stick by Carter, the call on the ice stood - No goal.
Goal waived off due to what looked like a borderline high-stick, but was eventually called a good goal.
Having Hossa school me on more than one occasion after going for a hip check only for him to pull off some of the new toe-drag/off the skate LB dekes that are in the game - also the fact that it's not as easy to just guide the oppositions forwards down the boards into a tunnel of death is refreshing, it creates a lot more varying situations defensively.
Hip-checking a guy only for him to now flip over me, but kind of stall on my back and then fall down right ontop of the puck only for him to play the puck from the ice.
More realistic deflections, I've noticed that the goalies seem to collapse a bit more to their goal line when they lose track of the puck with high-traffic in front of them, which has lead to some nice tip-ins.
Hardcore passing seems to actually work like they wanted it to last season.
...I'm clearly just way too excited for this game, but I can't get enough of the demo.
Also, having Hnat Domenchelli put on my ultimate team almost everytime I've done it is worth a good laugh.

I am 99% it is clicking the left stick. The speed burst is very minimal but it is there.
