Great numbers for the Tories today. If you're the liberals, your slouching back in your corner hoping that everyone forgets that you suggested an election.

Ouch. Most critically, the Tories are ahead by 6 in Ontario. Those are majority numbers, in all likelihood.
Mind you, the Liberals' most recent rhetoric suggests that this was always about forcing the NDP to prop up the government, and that seems to have worked. If that was their strategy, fine.
If they actually thought they might win a fall election? Ouch. The stupid, it hurts so much.

That was soooooo not the intention of the Liberals.
If you look at the results of the last election versus this poll.
The Cons are showing 37% now, in the last election they won 38% of the popular vote
The Libs are up a bit as well they won 26% of the vote in 2008 and are showing at 29.9
NDP have dropped from 18 to 13.8%
the block have dropped from 10 to 9.1
The Greens have increased from 7 to 9.1
The NDP and Bloc have been victimized as far as lost popularity.
The Liberals have increased over their last election result but have really lost momentum, and its clear that Ignatief's honeymoon period is pretty much over and he has to do something substantial to gain back his momentum. An election right now would probably have the same seating arrangement as far as a strong minority for the Conservatives, but the NDP and Bloc might lose a few seats to the Libs.

If this pork barrel scandal starts to gain traction, this will have been a good past couple months for the Liberals. They are picking up bloc and NDP support, and the conservatives will probably only be able to go as high as the support they got in the last election. This will mean less split of the left vote and more seats for the Liberals.

No doubt the Liberals are experts on Pork Barrel politics. I wonder what the motivation is for the Conservative candidate to come out with this accusation?

I don't think that this is a scandal yet, its not even on the radar screen until there's some actual proof.
I'm willing to bet that Harper neatly heads it off.
Its no different then what any other government has done when it hits power.
John McCallum shouldn't talk, he was part of the government that moved CFB Calgary out of a Conservative Bastien to support his Liberal MP.
I don't think this goes anywhere.

Here we go again. Apparently, Ignatieff will introduce a motion of non-confidence in the government, to be voted on this Thursday, October 1, in hopes of defeating the government and forcing a fall election.
Canadians also said Harper was best suited to lead the country through a recession (36%), ahead of Ignatieff (22%) and Layton (13%).
And more proof that the fiberals are out of touch with Canadians:
Quote:
Liberal MP David McGuinty said his party believes the government can’t be trusted to manage the economy and it will try to force an election call as early as Thursday.
Funny. I thought politicians were supposed to listen to their constituents. Isn't that what democracy is all about?
We've been over this before.
If a party does something that is popular, their supporters will say they're "following the will of the people", and their opponents will say they "don't have a spine and are foolishly governing based on opinion polls."
If a party does something that is not popular, their supporters will say they're "showing true leadership in the face of public opposition", and their opponents will say they're "failing to listen to the will of their constituents".

But this isn't policy or a new law. It's an election. I see it a little differently (I voted Liberal last election.)

I was speaking in a general sense, not about this issue specifically.
With respect to the last election, though, opinion surveys showed that Canadians didn't want an election last Fall either, but supporters of the Conservatives didn't accuse Harper of "not listening to the will of the people" when he chose to ignore his own fixed election date law and dissolve parliament more than a year early.
It's just the nature of the beast, I guess. People who follow politics are no different than sports fans when it comes to homerism. They'll criticize another party for something and look the other way when the party they support does the same thing.
