Soooo... Long shot, I'm sure, but does anyone know of any places in YYC that carries Kona Brewing Company beer? Or do I need to head down to Montana on a beer run?

Not quite what you're asking but I believe Cactus Club sells bottles of the Longboard Lager.

New Belgium is being sold in Calgary starting today. Fat Tire and Ranger IPA are the first ones. Not sure where exactly yet.
Hopefully they get Blue Paddle up here soon too.

I'm a big fan of Fat Tire. I gorge myself on it whenever I go to Vegas, and just recently, Arizona. I guess the issue previously is they would only cold ship the beer so it somewhat limited how far they were able to ship it. I suppose they've found a solution to that.

I'm far from a beer connoisseur, but I do have a kind of favorite that I have a hard time finding...
Im a big fan of the cutthroat IPA from the Tree Brewing company out of Kelowna. Their beer is in most stores but I can never find the cutthroat. Anybody know of a good store to find the stuff?

How does it compare to their Hop Head IPA? I was not a fan of that one at all (insanely bitter). I haven't tried the cutthroat though.

Infinitely better (IMO of course). I picked up one of their variety pack things awhile ago, and they were all way too bitter for me. Including the Hop Head. I almost wondered if it was a bad batch they were so bad.
But the cutthroat is good stuff.

The cutthroat is just plain jane American Pale Ale, not actually an 'IPA', which is probably why you like it more. Less hops, less bitterness, more malty flavour, a little sweeter. The Cutthroat is probably half as hoppy as Hop Head.
If you're not terribly interested in hops, their Thirsty Beaver amber ale is pretty good as well and less hoppy than the Cutthroat. I also like their Kelowna Pilsner, had one last night.
If you want to go to the other spectrum, they release tall boy version of some very hoppy beers. I would suggest their "Black IPA", aka, Cascadian Dark Ale (or, CDA). It packs a real wallop, high booze percentage, super high hop character, lots of smokey molasses malt character. Split it with a buddy or two if you're not sure about how hoppy you like things.

Bit of a reach here but does Cuba have any beers worth seeking out? I'm heading there next week and I don't enjoy rum all that much.

Yes, any cold beer.

I had an interesting tasting the other week. I had an old Rochefort 8 that got forgotten about/aged at cellar temperature for almost 2 years. In order to see what 2 years of aging did to it, I bought a new one to compare. In comparison, the new one had much more of a crisp, fresh, and fizzy flavor dominated the taste. The aged one was lacking that, but had a much more complex and deep flavor. Both were great, but to be honest the newer one was probably slightly preferred. It was fun to see if aging was worth the time and what it did to the beer. I guess I better drink my Westy's sooner than later.

They've been getting better and better with age. I've heard from a few people that this is an ideal age for those bad boys.
