We're nowhere near competing.

Our #1C almost undoubtedly needs to come from the draft.

Robertson will be a better asset than Rasmus, more chance to trade him for something valuable than Rasmus anyway if that ends up happening.

Dallas isn’t trading Johnston…lol.

The Stars have gone all in on their win now window. You simply don’t part with a player like Johnston unless he’s part of a package that gets you a significant upgrade.

That’s not Ras or any package coming from the Flames that makes sense for the Stars right now.

Pagnotta posted an article saying that Byram is looking for "a long term deal worth at least 9M per season"

I know Pagnotta isn't reliable, but if that has even a hint of truth to it, stay the hell away.

He called Ehlers to the Hurricanes yesterday. He is one of the best insiders, he gets some wrong but so do 99% of them.

He also isn't a dick like Seravelli.

That type of contract, will kill any offer sheet.

Exactly. I’m not so sure it’s St Louis but suppose it could be

Like I said earlier (insiderrrr) unless the Flames wanted to play the offer sheet, he’ll be a Blue.

Unless Calgary finally weaponized their cap space to take dead weight contracts and give Dallas additional flexibility.

3 way with ANA/DAL/CGY please, with Calgary getting McTavish and Dumba, Anaheim with Robertson, and Dallas with Andersson. Balance that out.

You have to look at how they are already built. They already have Roope, Seguin, Bourque, and Duchene down the middle. They need Andersson more than they need Johnston. Adding in Zary helps offset that as well. They are a stronger team if they make that trade and closer to a SC.

Hilariously, you managed to prove the point contrary to your first sentence and then tried to walk it back.

Trading Johnston is a Win Now move. From the Stars immediate view he is not a #1C, that is Hintz. Having Seguin and Duchene also make him expendable in the middle 6. Moving Johnston out makes sense for Bourque's situation too so he has an opportunity for a bigger role and bigger contract.

Andersson actually IS the upgrade that makes sense for the Stars right now. They came out of the playoffs and it was immediately pointed out that their D needed an upgrade on the right side. That is why there are so many rumours out there about the Stars trying to acquire him as he is the only option that fits into their cap structure. If they can bring in Andersson AND move out 2 cap dumps that are currently $7M in dead weight in the D group at the same time then that is a massive release valve for Nill to make better moves.

That is the type of move that makes one think about what it was like for the Flames to trade away Hull.

Robertson is not the solution for the Flames. The Flames already have a $10M LWer and the last thing we need is to bring in another expensive LWer and have his value tank because we do not have a C for him to play with. Could you imagine if Robertson came here, signed a massive extension, and his production cut in half?

Johnston just signed his contract in March. They're not trading him this quickly.

Duchene is better a winger at this point in time. Seguin and Bourque can play wing too. Easier to move those players to wing anyway. They’re not moving Johnston.

We can make a 6 year UFA pitch to Johnston when his 5 year deal is up. I would hope by that time we look like a desirable destination.
