So brutal. I remember going to his first NHL game in Vancouver. Being so excited to see such a high skilled player on the Flames for once. Was really hoping it was an awful rumor last night. He was my favorite player for a long time on the Flames. Just brutal news.

I am named after my dad's brother who was killed by a drunk driver just blocks from their home. It shatters lives and families in ways that are never repaired.
I am gutted for the Gaudreau family losing two sons because someone got behind the wheel drunk. And I'm gutted for his wife and kids.

Johnny's OT goal against Dallas is one of my favorite moments, and now just like Steve Montador's goal against SJ, one will not be able to watch it without a sense of tremendous grief.

I get it. But those descriptors just seem to disgusting to me. This had nothing to do with cycling. This wasn’t an accident. A drunk driver killed them.

What a heart-rending tragedy for the family. For whatever comfort they can take from the condolences of his fans, my thoughts and prayers are with them.

I regularly see people driving 40-45km/h above the limit on my very residential street and think “you might get away with it 99 times in a row but that one time will destroy so many lives.” My thoughts are with the Gaudreau family who should be celebrating one of the greatest days of their lives today but are dealing with unspeakable grief instead.

Johnny was electric. He overcame his physical limitations to dominate a sport at the highest level. It was inspiring to watch him and he brought us to our feet every time he had the puck on his stick. Being a flames fan hasn’t always been easy but Johnny made it easy to cheer for them.

I don’t have the words here. Johnny was our light during the darkest times I can remember in our franchise. My heart goes out to his parents, Meredith, his family and his friends.

13 needs to be in the rafters now.

Yeah let's not make it seem like he crashed into a tree here. They were effectively murdered by someone passing on the shoulder.

Absolute gut punch to wake up to this. That poor family. I can't even imagine.

Poor Monny as well, who moved his life to Colombus to play with his best friend again, but now never will.

My thoughts are with them all.

Terrible news to wake up to. One of the players that really made the game fun to watch, and him having young children makes it so much worse.

Heartbroken at the news. He was my absolutely favourite player in the world and it saddens me I’ll never get to watch him make magic on the ice ever again.

But to be honest, all I can think about today are his wife and two young children, and his family and especially his sister. I can’t begin to imagine how devastating this is for them. My deepest condolences to them and RIP Johnny. There will never be another quite like you.

I think we need a poll about retiring #13

I read a bunch of the Twitter explosion last night and I figured it was just another jackhole spreading garbage. Shocked to see it’s true this morning. Such devastating circumstances too. Condolences to his family and friends.

RIP Johnny. You were part of so many of my favourite Calgary Flames moments. I still remember the sheer joy, excitement, and relief I felt when you scored that goal against Dallas in Game 7 of the playoffs.

I fell asleep last night before seeing any of the unconfirmed reports. This is absolutely flooring news. I just think of my own son who’s roughly the same age as Gaudreaus oldest and how terrible that would be for him.

And a wedding today on top of it all, #### sakes what a terrible moment for the family.

We don't need a poll, we don't need a discussion, when appropriate and when it feels right for the family we retire his number. Until then no one wears it.

No need for a poll, it will be the closest thing to 100% this forum will ever see.

No poll needed
This should be a given or at least no one in the Flames will ever wear it again
