Wideman’s appeal resulted in a lesser suspension, which by then just amounted to less of a loss of money for him.

There’s pretty much nothing to appeal on this one though. Are they really going to argue length of it? At the very most favourable he cross checked a guy after the end of the game and his stick accidentally went into the guy’s head. That’s a suspension even on the best facts (the code is just not a factor in discipline).

Spezza had been in the league for 100 years, never suspended once, and Parros gave him a 6 game suspension. He appealed and they dropped it to 4.

The part of that what sticks with me, is Bettman's super effin smarmy response to the reduction. "Well he already missed 18 games so..." Smug smirk right into the camera. I have never wanted to perpetrate violence in the form of face punches more in my life, and haven't since.

Remember Tie Domi’s video he used to put on in away games, with the penalty box official? When he got a penalty up on the screen you could see him sitting mad, and chucking a towel at the official, who chucked it back and they proceed to shove and then wrestle off of the screen. The official comes back alone, dusting off his hands.
It was brilliant, and the scuffle starts so realistically with just the towel toss, that everyone thought it was really going on.
