They didn't award the cup in 2005, I foresee the same thing playing out this year.

Yes. But that official announcement was that another official announcement will be made tomorrow with a decision.

Not yet. This is the latest update:

The NHL said Wednesday it will update the status of its season after learning that the NBA has suspended its regular season due to concern over the coronavirus.

"The National Hockey League is aware of the NBA's decision tonight to indefinitely suspend its season due to a player testing positive for the coronavirus," the League said in a statement. "The NHL is continuing to consult with medical experts and is evaluating the options. We expect to have a further update tomorrow."

The NHL Players' Association also released a statement Wednesday.

"We are in continuous contact with the NHL regarding the coronavirus and the recent announcement by the NBA," the statement said. "These discussions will continue tomorrow morning, and we will consult with players before commenting further."

Earlier Wednesday, the Columbus Blue Jackets said they would host the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday in the first NHL game without fans in attendance. The San Jose Sharks said Wednesday they will play the three home games remaining this month without fans.

The Blue Jackets' action was in response to an order banning mass gatherings in Ohio, and the Sharks are responding to a similar ban in Santa Clara County in California.

Totally disagree with that. So long as you take all reasonable precautions to prevent a spread, you do not get sued for that. Or if you do, it's a failed lawsuit. Not a real concern.

Now, if there's 20,000 people in the building, that's reckless and a whole other story for various reasons. But just with the two teams involved and minimal arena staff on danger pay? Nah.

THIS.

The potential for forfeiture.

Call-ups from the minors would be a logistical nightmare.

I have tickets and would attend the game tomorrow, but putting the chances of it being cancelled at 80%.

Yeah I feel like it’s a bad look for the NHL if they push through with the season when so many other leagues have suspended play.

A NBA player had the virus and he didn't know. The incubation period is days, how do you protect against that? What's a reasonable precaution when there are estimates up to 70% getting infected?

The precedent in the past has been to cancel the competition. I am thinking about the 1995 baseball season, 2004 NHL lockout, and various Olympics and World Cup competitions between 1938-48. Exceptions were the strike shortened seasons in baseball(1980 1st half played 2 half champs) and the shortened hockey season starting from scratch a few years ago.

One might consider cancelling the balance of the season to be a reasonable precaution.

If an athlete or athletes get sick and die...I think its pretty bad and the lawsuites may kill a team like florida or Arizona.

But I am no lawyer that's for sure. But do you really risk the players heath over it. If Crosby or McDavid died it would be very expensive and a horrible look.

The Jazz have played three of their last five games in arenas shared with an NHL team. From memory of what was said during the second intermission tonight.

Well that wouldn't happen...two athletes in their prime (not to mention having millions of dollars) aren't going to die from it

I agree with your stance on lawyers though

It can possibly create really long lasting effects even if you don’t die

McDavid is sick already not with that but with the flu I heard so he should probably just sit out regardless his immune system will probably be weak from fighting whatever it is he has right now

I'm sure McDavid would have it for the rest of his career and we would hear about it every time he has a bad game
