I'm with Locke on this.

The show should stand alone in and of itself.

That said, they can have lots of Easter Eggs that will give the show more depth, and add to it, but they shouldn't be necessary.

And if she is so hot-awesome where was this Ashokha clown when the Galaxy was tearing itself to pieces and the Skywalkers were gallivanting about destroying everything?

"Hey...so where were you when the Galactic Empire and the Rebellion were duking it out? Did you just have more important things to do?"

You don't need to have watched the cartoons to get or enjoy what happened in this episode though. It's neat for those of us who have, but at the end of the day the episode does stand on its own. You get to know who she is, some background on Mandalore, and that she is after the dark saber, which I am sure most people can put two and two together was the black ... saber, the bad guy was holding at the end of the last season.

Since Bo Katan was around Obi Wan's age in Clone Wars, shouldn't she be around 50-60 by the point of the Mandalorian?
In fact, she might be the oldest human character who is alive at this point in canon.

If she's Obi-Wan's age, she'd be even older than that. Obi-Wan was in his late 50s in ANH (Alec Guinness was in his early 60s) and this show takes place about a decade later.

Even if she's Anakin's age, that would still make her about 50 in The Mandalorian.

That was a great episode, loved every part of it

The Frog reunion was actually really touching
We finally saw the home world of the Mon Calamari and Quarran which is Dac. The world was basically wrecked by the Empire.
Love that they had Katee play the live action version of Bo Katan. Loved her look.
The hunt is on for the Dark Sabre, without it there can be no Mandalore.
Mando is a part of a radical sect of Death Watch, I kind of expected that because of the whole rule of not removing the helmets etc. In Clone Wars we saw Death Watch pulling their helmets off all of the time.
The Empire has a fleet out there and these Imperials seem to be zealots, are they part of the beginning of the First Order? The battle of Jakku is long over, and the most zealous of the Imperials have already fled to the unknown regions. So are these Imperials remnants, or have they returned from the Unknown regions for a specific task?
Loved the last scene with the piece of the ship coming off, it reminds me of the ending of Serenity.

Yep, excellent episode. The Mandalorians were done perfectly. Loved seeing some of the locales and spacecraft from the animated shows brought to live action.

I love that they are tieing in storylines from the animated series, and hopefully filling in some of the blanks that haven't been fully fleshed out. I haven't read any of the novelization or comics (I keep meaning to), so it's nice to have the universe fleshed out on screen.

you don't really need to read the books or novelization to keep up. But there is a lot of material from Rebels and Clone Wars in it.

Its funny, when I visualized Dac from the Clone Wars and even some games. They had these beautiful underwater cities. It was also one of the primary ship yards in the GFFA. Seems to have fallen into bad times.

Loved the Razercrest landing though. Touches down "phew . . . ah sh"

It wasn't the Mon Calamari homeworld. It was a place called Trask, a moon orbiting a planet named Kol Iben.

Fair enough, I misheard Trask as Dac.

My bad. Still a complete junk heap like all of the other planets in the rim.

Oh I agree, the point i think Locke was making, at else the point i was making, is they want to avoid relying on other shows for information and character development.

Its an easy trap for the writers/directors to fall into.

Episode 3 did a good job standing on its own within the Madalorian.

I think these series should interconnect but not be necessary to have watched.

This week was my favorite chapter so far. One thing that had been bugging me from the beginning was why Jango Fett seemingly wasn't attached to his helmet in AotC that was Mando is in this. I like the explanation he was raised by religious zealots, it's short bit of dialogue that can create all kinds of story spirals.

Definitely if you know the depth of Ahsoka's story it will add weight to her showing up in Mandalorian. But it won't be necessary to understand she is a Jedi and here is a youngling.

I really hope they give us a subtle reaction from her to Vader dying, somehow some way. Ahsoka is also my favourite Star Wars character, to me she is the ultimate lawful good alignment in this universe.

Clone Wars spoiler:

Spoiler!

I can imagine her seeing the Yoda baby and absolutely refusing to help. I mean she saw a good man and good friend like Anakin trained by Kenobi going to the Darkside, same with Dooku who wad trained by Yoda.

She might be willing to help get the baby back to its people, but she might not want to do that Jedi stuff.

She really suffered under the Sith.

Palpatine, Skywalker, Maul, Dooku.

Mando will walk in with baby yoda, Ahsoka will be standing there looking all noble, Baby Yoda will smile and reach his arms out, the triumphant victory music will be playing.

Mando will say "I am looking to return this little on to the Jedi."

Ahsoka will respond "I am no Jedi." draw her lightsabers and cut his head off, Welcome to the Jungle will start playing as she turns towards Baby Yoda and it fades to black.

End series.

And that I'm no Jedi thing is more important then we realize. Even when she was wearing the robe in the end of Rebels, she had fully left the Jedi Order. She was more Grey then anything else.

I would think that even Ashoka would not be all that eager to see the Jedi rise again. She saw the worst of them and Maul really did a good job of pointing that out to her in the last season of Clone Wars.

That was awesome! When Bo first showed I wasn't sure it was her but then when she took off her helmet, no doubt. And it is fantastic to see how dangerous the mandalorian's are just like with IG-88; the show has continued to build on just how dangerous Jedi are; Ahsoka in particular has had multiple deadly showings against all of the previous examples.

They did miss one thing for me. When baby Yoda was attacked by his Chowder, it would have been way funnier to have him slurp it into his mouth like udon noodles.

Part of me kind of felt really bad for Ashley Eckstein who did a great job as Ashoka and really loved working on that character. I'm hoping they can give her something to do in this series.

Do you see her as a good fit for the role?

It's more likely she's an occasional cameo, but one can hope.
