I hate "hold onto the lead" hockey. This looks like Gulutzan trauma. The one man forecheck mentioned earlier has to stop, send two or three players. Pressure the Avs.
It's the wrong brand of hockey, these guys can't do it.
|
We had a 2/3 man forecheck coming into this game, and the Avs led the playoffs with 42 odd man rush attempts coming into this game.
Doesn’t matter what the system is when the players play scared and can’t win a puck battle. Issue with 3 man forecheck we had in game 2 and 3 was that 2 Avs would win the puck against 3 Flames and it be an odd man rush the other way .

given the way that the whole team has played outside of a few players, i doubt stone would have made much of a difference here. especially not at the cost of valimaki, one of the few bright spots

Worst case scenario is the team responds in game 5 but Smith is just average.

Did I predict that? Pretty sure I didn't. The point was when the going gets tough the Flames fold up shop and go home. The signs were there post all start break. We are living them now.

Pretty certain you said their play would cost them the division...multiple times
If you are here to say "I told you so" because the Flames are losing in the playoffs that is pretty lame, almost like you were hoping for it

Gaudreau needs to be on a line with another player who can gain entry. The schtick he has where he waterbugs around and then dishes to Monahan in the slot is predictable and easy to defend in the playoffs when everyone gets played a lot tighter.

It’s just that Mackinnon looks worlds better right now in comparison. Crosby had 1 assist in 4 games and was swept by the Islanders and he’s a generational talent. If it was Crosby vs Gaudreau right now, the vitriol wouldn’tbe nearly as bad.
Playoff hockey is not suited for Gaudreau, I think even he knows that. But he can still be successful I think, he just needs a center that’s more puck dominant and can carry the puck up the middle more instead of always deferring to his winger Gaudreau. It’s tough always being expected to create from the wing when double teams and etc are coming at you.

Get bent. Your voices carry no weight around here.

Their voices carry a lot heavier than someone who cheers for two teams.

Yup.
It’s not the game plan to lose every puck battle on the ice and play with no urgency or speed.

After all the video sessions I would like Bill Peters to explain 50 shots on goal for the second game on a row.

No way they should have been flying the zone on the Avs 1st goal...they had a two goal lead FFS

At least it's clear this playoffs - we've been exposed. Much like Tampa Bay.
Playoffs are a different game. You need a team that will not only get you in to the tournament, but then one that can also blast up the intensity.
The Flames have shown that they are well above the pack for the long drawn out grind of the 82 game schedule, but lack the desire and drive to take it to the next level in short bursts when it matters against tough opposition. What's the answer?
I'm confident BT will do what he can but it'll be this time next year until we know if we're better off.

If I am Treliving, and if possibe, I would package a first rounder with Monahan to upgrade that position. Now I am sure it would take more, probably not even possible. But we can't waste Johnny's talent the way Iginla's was.

Crazy that the top 2 seeds in the league are all but done in the 1st round. Anyone know off the top of their head the last time this happened?

Tampa had an epic collapse but they've at least been to the 3rd round recently.

Can't watch this garbage, gutless team anymore.
Wish I could get my money back from the Game 3 tickets.
Also done watching the NHL this season.
Wife and kids should notice me being less tired and grouchy, so we can enjoy the rest of the spring and summer.
Bye...
