I bet once they know their cap space available after signing their RFAs, they'll be able to make a fair offer (or not) to Iggy.

We all say we want Iggy, we want Jagr. But do they actually want to come even if the Flames want them (given the team pays what they are asking for)?

I know! I don't know why people are ignoring the fact that Iginla hates Calgary and doesn't want to come back here. ( source)

Have you read the last few pages of this thread?

I spoke to a member of Flames management last week and jokingly asked if we were bringing back Iggy. The individual said he's spoken to Iginla and he's training super hard this summer because he feels he has 1 more year left in him. Iggy knew he wasn't going to be a priority guy this summer so he's being patient while trying to still be ready for the season in hopes he will be signed somewhere. Iginla even said to this individual something along the lines of "so you guys need RWers right?", and said he has shown interest in coming back to Calgary. Now the question is whether Flames management think there's a fit. But they will speak to Iginla's agent and consider it an option.
So in conclusion, contrary to some people's opinions, Iginla is willing to come back to Calgary to play if the Flames will have him and the fit makes sense.

So if Friedman is right sounds like nothing will happen till ferland signs and they are bickering about 2 years or 3 on term. Wonder if the flames play hardball or young players here take a more militant stance, i like ferland but am surprised to see such an unaccomplished player causing such negotiating difficulties and it is a bit weird Bennett and Lazar remain unsigned to me as well when the players have little leverage from what i can see.

I don't believe he mentions that they are bickering over term, just that the term may be a negotiating point.

I had been avoiding this thread for a long time because of ... well you know, pages like 1-24. But now all of a sudden this is a great thread.
I don't expect 04 Iggy or even 2010 Iggy, but I do expect a dressing room character, an emotional boost, a right winger with size and a great shot who won't back down and most importantly - will stand up for his teammates. This team got walked over in the Anaheim series, lets bring in more guys who won't let that happen.

Here's how it's going to unfold
1) sign PTO with flame
2) scores shoot out winner in last preseason game
3) signed a one day contract with flames
4) retire as a flame
5) forever a flame

There is nothing remotely unusual about RFAs who remain unsigned in mid-July.

If we sign Iggy for about 1 million or less even, I don't think it would affect the signings of Ferland/Bennett/Lazar at all? We'd still have enough.
edit: Looks like Ferly will sign for $1.75aav.
So, uh... make it so.

I'd have to assume that now conversations must be continuing with Ferly's contract in order. Once we take care of Bennett and Lazar, they should be able to work something out. I love the idea of 1M + 500K bonuses for 20 goals and and 20 assists each. Come on Brad, make it happen!!

If you wanted to argue his legs would not last for a full season that is different. His skating was much better on his tryout than either Iginla or Jagr is now.

I was a season ticket holder at the time. I saw it all.

What about Iggy for 700k?
He was traded for nothing at the trade deadline so I don't think he is that desirable. He might take whatever he can get?

I tend to think he has a threshold under which he will simply walk away, and I doubt very much that anything under $1.5 m would be worth his while.
