2018 might be a deep draft, but the Flames' time to go for it is in the next 3-4 years.

After Monahan, Bennett, Tkachuk and now Salimaki in recent drafts, I'm pretty comfortable with trading a 20-30 pick that won't help us until that window is closing for a 26 year old bonafide top 4 d-man that eliminates a hole on a good contract (allowing for room for other moves) that helps us now.

Eventually you have to break out of the perpetual rebuild mentality and take the next step, otherwise you're stuck in that "crawl", while your dumbass lottery ball neighbour threatens to pass you by.

I'd actually argue that Edmonton taking a step may do wonders for the Flames given that it's providing more motivation and pressure to come up with a response. I like initiative Brad is taking to make this a very good team for the next handful of years.

Ummm.

What.

I like Stone, but Harmonic brings a better defensive and physical game then Stone could ever hope to. I would argue that Harmonic is way better at that aspect of his game then Stone. The Flames needed to add that strong defensive presence to the Flames

If you think your going to get Demers for cheap your fooling yourself, and Franson is a bottom pairing guy who's probably going to command the same hit as Harmonic on the market.

Your actually reaching and you don't know what your talking about.

Franson made 3 million bucks a year at 29 and he's a UFA. He'll probably end up with Russell numbers and he's pretty much a bottom pairing guy.

Florida is paying Demers 4.5 and would probably want more then the Islanders wanted for Harmonic.

I'm just wondering what 2x1st or the equivalent would have gotten us on Right Wing. It's not a bad trade per se, but our right wing is league bottom bad. Well, I'm a sales director and Tre is a wizard so what the F do I know...

At first I thought we overpaid, but then I realized Hamonic is really the perfect #4 guy for the Flames. Not only is he the ideal #4 defenseman is a guy who can eat 20+ minutes without being a liabily and can help move the puck offensively, but he's also the right guy who can elevate Brodie's game.

Having Brodie become a legit #1 makes it worth it. If Hamonic can allow Brodie to be a top 20 defensemen in this league, that's a bonus.

But still, the Flames need to value picks. I think it's time they hunker down and sell Stajan, Bouma, Chiasson, Hamilton, and Brouwer if possible and get some picks back.

Given the price paid it is obvious the Flames think Hamonic is a big upgrade on Stone. You may disagree, but there are some smart hockey people who agree with them.

When has a Treliving draft ever been boring?

It's not like the Flames can't pick up picks in the future...relax, the 45 win Flames are much improved IMO. At some point you gotta go for it

I like the move, agree it is exactly what the team needs, and hoping he has great chemistry with Brodie and elevates both their games.

I don't think it's a "Wizard" type move as I would have preferred if Tre could have convinced Snow to take a prospect like Shinkaruk, Klimchuk, or even a roster player like Chiasson instead of the two 2nd rounders; which would have truly warranted wizard status.

Ignoring the picks, it's still the right move. The window is now as Gaudreau is gone in 3 or 4 years depending if they trade him before his deal expires, so they have to go for it.

Hoping we can squeeze Stone onto the bottom pairing. Gives us a stellar top 5 and if someone in the top 4 is injured I feel a lot better about Stone stepping in to cover. That would give us great depth on the blueline.

Looks good. I think Bennett gets a little less and Ferland a little more but all in all I think this is very close to the opening day roster, if Stone is re-signed. What will really push this team into the upper echelon will be if Ferland shows he is the same player that he was the last 6 weeks of the season. Either that or Brouwer needs to have a huge bounce back. That #1 RW is a crapshoot with almost no cap room left.

I like the deal. This keeps junk like Grossmann and Bartkowski out of the lineup. It's also easier to start moving prospects in and off the roster without losing focus on winning.

Off topic question here. Just wondering why where someone posts a video like in the above post, all I see is a black box with no ability to see or play the video? Anyone else have this problem?
