Honestly, I think the Oilers take a step back next year (while McDavid still puts up points), and I think the Oilers' window might close after next season when McDavid's contract kicks in.
There's lots of love for the Oilers on twitter right now from prominent media members, but I'm not sure I share their optimism. A lot of things went right for the Oilers this year, and they are going to have cap difficulties. They may make the playoffs, but there certainly isn't any guarantee that they ever become a true cup contender.
exactly, how many SC winning teams have players like Eberle, RNH and Lucic making close to 20 m. i cant see Leon getting less than 7 and Mcsaviour around 10. with contracts like that, you need great "cheap" depth and the Oilers dont have it.

Yep. The fun and games end under the burden of expectations. It's going to be all business going forward and it's a lot different when the fans and media expect you to win every night and make the playoffs.
Spector,Staples,Remenda,Jones (toss in Shannon and Ron MacLean too)...all should have some epic comments today/tomorrow/over the offseason, which will be chided for years to come.

I have the worst feeling that the next ten years of Flames hockey goes very similarly to how the last 10 years of the Flyers have.
Fortunately I don't see the arch-rival team of loser dweebs winning anything but you never know when the NHL will give them another handout
Expect new rules about "designating a franchise player" or something to come out next season so that McLoser's 14 million salary only counts like 7 against the cap

He ends up winning the division with the youngest blue line in the league and breaking their game seven curse in getting the team to the 3rd round in the playoffs for only the 2nd time since he was coaching there in his first tenure. He deserves some credit here for being a better coach than he showed in Toronto.

I have been trying not to take your bait all night as there's too much good going on here to sidetrack the conversation. Yes I was convinced they would win as this is arguably the luckiest team we have seen in some time. It's really hard to bet against a team that has a goaltender standing on his head while scoring half their playoff goals in billiard fashion as it was looking like 2006 all over again right down to beating even the same teams in the Sharks and Ducks. Extremely happy to be wrong here. Satisfied?
