Fleury was a lower tier starter for a very long time and frequently sewered his team's playoff hopes with all-time bad performances.
However, in the last year or two he's been playing much better hockey and stopping more pucks and I would say he's now an average starter.
He absolutely isn't worth more than the 3rd that Elliott's resigning would cost but he is at least average.
Personally I think Halak is the best of the available options given the prices and contracts associated with any of the available goalies this year.
Pickard, Raanta, and Grubauer are solid but I don't think any one of them is a Talbot, Jones, or Schneider.

Halak to me seems like acquiring Hiller again. A goalie that is seemingly on the downswing of his career. He does have respectable numbers, but I wouldn't be thrilled in acquiring him.
MAF makes sense from a continuity standpoint. I really believe Parsons is going to turn into a decent goaltender. Gillies shows promise.
From the rumored 'young up and coming' and perhaps available options, I would be ok with Pickard as long as you bring back Johnson. Grubauer seems like a good bet as well. Probably a handful of decent bets out there, but there doesn't seem to be a 'sure thing' left. I wouldn't be adverse to the Flames acquiring 2 of these young guys and seeing if one can turn into a starter.

What's a starters work load? Based on that page, Bishop started 50 games on average to Elliotts 42, so no a huge difference. Lunqvist started 66 by comparison.

Playing 20% more seems very significant, to me.

Bishop played 60 plus games 3 straight years and then went deep in the playoffs twice with elite numbers. Hes more than proven he can handle a heavy workload while at the same time put up consistent strong stats.

He hasn't really. Two great seasons, two below average.
Consistency means repeating it over and over. 50% of his seasons have seen him in the bottom half of NHL starters stat-wise. Not sure why hardcore Bishop fans are in such strong denial of his good, but definitely not "elite" career to-date. With any player, when your argument requires you to leave out the worst season (even though it accounts for nearly 25% of that player's career) then you lose credibility. That's not being objective about a player, that's cherry picking stats to fit a narrative.
If Bishop is truly elite then he's been wildly inconsistent. Any suggestion that he's been consistently elite is untrue. He's played about how you would expect a good goaltender to play, which is better than good sometimes and flat out bad other times, with a whole lot of games in between those two points.

We've been through this already. His numbers dipped in 2014/15 but he still won 40 games in the regular season and then carried his team all the way to the Finals with Conn Smythe caliber numbers.
If that's not elite to you then we're just going to have to agree to disagree on this (which I thought we already did)
Everybody talks about Kipper like he was an elite goalie, which he was. But just like every elite goalie their numbers varied from seasons to season. No goalie puts up .920+ every year except for Carey Price, and I would bet even he will have a down year here and there over the next handful.

It still blows my mind that 46 people in this poll, the 4th highest result, actually want (not THINK Elliott will be the starter, but actually WANT) him back as the starting goalie.

Not saying it won't happen (I'd love if we did get Grubauer), but I just don't see how it can. The big knock on this team for the last 2 seasons is that we've had bottom 5 goaltending (15/16-.899sv%, 16/17-.910sv%). Can Treliving afford to take a chance on any of Grubauer/Raanta/Pickard transitioning into a top 15 starting goaltender next season?
I think he's going to need to pay the assets required to bring in a sure thing. Is that Schneider? I want it to be Schneider, so bad.
I don't think anyone could deny that the success of the Oilers and dominance over us this past season has placed additional pressure on our management to not just make the playoffs, but to be a contender. We will never get there without a rock-star in goal.

It's not about agreeing to disagree on the definition of elite. It's that he's played 4 seasons as a starter and two of them have been below average to bad. There are plenty of good goalies who put up an amazing season or two, that doesn't make them elite. He needs to do more to prove he is who you say he is, because he flat out isn't there yet.
It's about sample size. His "elite" one is incredibly small. It looks flat out stupid to continue excusing or erasing 50% of his career to fit a narrative.

0.916 / 2.32 GAA and 40 wins is not below average to bad, especially when coupled with 0.928 / 2.18 GAA and 13 wins in the playoffs.
Three straight above average to elite seasons.

Carey Price, you do NOT want to sign an extension in Montreal...
...you want a trade to Calgary...Western Canada where you grew up..
...C-A-L-G-A-R-Y....
...a team that isn't a lottery team without you....
...a team that makes the playoffs even with below average goaltending....
...a team you won't have to carry to the playoffs...
....CALGARY.....

Price would cost way too much to acquire and likely a 10x8 deal to keep. If I am the Habs I wouldn't even consider moving Proce tonthe Flames without Monahan or Bennett++ coming the other way

It's never going to happen so I'm not even going to argue the merits of it.

What Calgary needs is a 2 to maybe 3 year stopgap. MAF is ideal in that he isn't too much $$ and will be done his Contract by the time both Parsons and Gillies should be ready to take over the starting job. I see a bunch of promise out of those two guys. Smart determined goalies with drastically different playing styles.
What could be a plan C or D and who isn't on the list to pick form is Semyon Varlamov out of Colorado that may be available for a decent price if they decide to go with Pickard.

Halak is interesting. Not even just as a potential Flames goalie but also to see where he ends up and how he bounces back. He got stuck in a 3 goalie rotation behind a team that couldn't seem to find any sort of groove.
Likely could be had for cheap as it seems he's the odd man out in Brooklyn and could potentially be one of the top 5 goalies on that list when we're looking back a year from now.

Decent NHL stats last year, great AHL stats, winning record vs. Anaheim (petty of me, but its important) and has one year left at a decent price so he works well as a stop gap. I wouldn't hate this.
