No really. Go check the standings.
They have as many points in as many games as the Predators. This team seems legit.
They only trail the Lightning, who they just beat last night.
|
Not just leading the division. They're 2nd overall. On December 20! That's amazing for an expansion team. I may get to go to a VGK playoff home game!

Obviously good coaching is playing a major part of it.

That kind of team can catch lightning in a bottle, sometimes even over a whole season. But they don't seem to have success for longer than that. Probably because even a little fallback in play from the average joes cannot be compensated for through a few elite guys.

You have to think the expansion rules will be harder for Seattle. Owners can't be happy an expansion team is near the top of the league so quickly. Embarrassing for a number of GMs too that an expansion team is outperforming teams that have been building for years.

Sour grapes I know, but I don't like it.
I find it very annoying that this expansion team can come in and have a better first season than I've seen the Flames have in pretty much 30 years.
They are on pace for 114 points for #### sakes.
They don't have a lot of older players either, had 12 picks at last years draft (including 3 first rounders and 2 second rounders) and they also have 14 picks total in the first three rounds of the next three drafts. (net of +6)

Sometimes "new" Teams are on fire for their first year. I dont see VGK repeating that effort.

Just think how Florida feels right now. Granted, a lot of their woes are self inflicted, but two of Vegas' top scorers are 26 year olds who they got to poach from the Panthers and are having excellent years with 31 and 26 points respectively. Meanwhile the Panthers have to watch Vegas sit up in the top 5 of the league standings while FLA toils down near the bottom.
At least all we lost out of the deal was a 35 year old Deryk Engelland.

Even if they go only .500 for the rest of the season, they are most likely in the playoffs. One or two games below and they risk missing, but not guaranteed to miss. This is crazy.

It’s unsustainable imo. I think they’re having a year like the 13/14 Avs.

Vegas success has a lot to do with Florida going crazy, & Columbus making a bad bet.
Instead of just giving Vegas Alex Petrovic they willingly gave them Marchessault and Smith. A pair of guys who were already proven top 6 talent and who were still only 26.
Then you add William Karlsson to that line - and you have a guy who was comparable to a young Backlund here in Calgary. Okay advanced stats, good defensively, but only ever showed inconsistent flashes of offense in Columbus. Now he has taken that next step with more PP time and better linemates (Plus they got a 1st, 2nd, & had to take David Clarkson to that deal)
Those two trades are what really set up the Knights. They now have a top line that is producing as a top 5 line in the league from both an advanced stats and actual production perspective. Add that to their depth on D, and the couple of good scorers they were expected to get (Haula, Perron, Neal), and now you have a good team.
The real crazy part is they were still able to overcome the goalie injuries. In his 14 games Maxime Legacy had a .872 save percentage, and this team was still able to stay afloat.

I watched last night's game - they are quite good. Up tempo, creating a lot of prime chances against a tough opponent.

Alot of times they do fly out right after the game.
I don't understand the big deal about teams being in Vegas. Teams can get into trouble in any city they play in.

There is certainly a novelty right now...also, if the Blues were all out partying in Calgary last night we would all know about it.

I checked the schedule and both times we play in Vegas we have the day off before and another road game the following night. Letīs see if the Vegas Flu hits us or not before we play the Knights.

An afternoon game the day after St Patrick's Day (and Backlund's birthday) will be an interesting challenge for the Flames.

Anyone find it weird that the Flames still haven't played Vegas once yet, and we're about 33/34 games into the season? Are the Flames the only team Vegas hasn't played yet?
We're even in the same division, so it's not like we'll only play them twice per season.
If they are going to decline later (which I am starting to doubt), then maybe we can hit them on their downswing.
