Sam Bennett is no good

#Flames C/LW Sam Bennett has now logged 200 minutes of icetime this season without collecting a point. He's played 47 minutes more than any other NHL forward with zeroes on stat-sheet.

More than 15.
Nino Niederreiter got 1 point in 55 games in his 2nd NHL season.
He'd gotten a consistent 20 goals + per season ever since, and had 57 points last season.
If you were his GM, he'd be "sucking" for some other team. Just like the former Islander GM who dumped him for "sucking".

He needs a change of scenery period. It will help him get a fresh start somewhere else. And yes knowing Treliving he would get something decent for Bennett. Reinhart hasn't looked that great so far, so doing a swap wouldn't be that bad I think.

Yakupov got 9 points in 40 games last season in St. Louis.
At the tender age of 24 he finally seems to have found his game in Colorado. (Early though, but 4+3 in 14 games is a pretty good start.)
Some guys just take time.

A change of scenery basically means playing for a new coach under a new system and hoping it clicks. With that in mind, and ultimately not knowing what this season holds or who will be running the bench next year, I'd hang on to Bennett. His change of scenery could well come here.

The thing with Nino after that season he played in the AHL the following year. He scored 28 goals which IMO helped him a lot and got him back on track. If Bennett was eligible to go back to AHL I think it would do wonders for his confidence/game.

Totally agree, and thats why its hard as a fan to figure out what the issue is with him. Using sucks is kind of harsh without knowing if its the system, coach, or a mental thing.

A change of scenery often simply means that the randomness of hockey has clicked over and he starts producing.
If he could be traded for Reinhart, it means hockey GM's think he doesn't suck.

Can we not send him down to Stockton to gain some confidence and some touch? Isn't that what a farm team is for?

At this point he'd have to go through waivers to get there, and that ain't happening.

If you want to risk losing him to waivers, you could try. Is there any doubt some team would claim him?

Does anyone recall the elite goals Bennett used to score in close at high speeds?
I remember him scoring goals up close with small openings between the goalie and the net with ease. Wrap-aroundss nifty passes. What happened to that guy. At one point you could blame his line mates but now it's a different ball game. Please bring our old Sam Bennett back where ever he went!

Didn't realize he'd have to go through waivers. That was my question though, couldn't we just send him down to waivers, and the answer is no because he'd have to clear waivers. Thanks.

At some point don't you have to try him with Gaudreau and Monahan?

If he doesn’t do something where he is soon, absolutely. With those two or Backlund and Frolik.
Sam Bennett has shown flashes that suggest he is capable of high-quality output. At very least, we know he can be better than he is right now.
Long before his time in Calgary is done, you have to try anything to get him going IMO.

Not while Ferland is playing so well
Think you let him continue with Jankowski and Jagr but give him consistent PP minutes. He was good on the Hamilton goal last night and is a much better option then Frolik on the man advantage.

I think the next stop for Bennett is 4L duty beside Lazar & Brouwer. Lines 1 & 2 are fine as of now and shouldn't be tinkered with.
This isn't an indictment of Bennett, but similar to Marner in Toronto, they may just want to try rebuilding him from the ground up. Give him a few minutes less but against lesser competition.

I'm not that familiar with the CBA, so I've never understood why Bennett couldn't have spent time in the AHL. Look at Brayden Schenn (a player of similar pedigree, drafted 5th OA):
Draft year +1: CHL 29 games; AHL 7; NHL 8
Draft year +2: AHL 7 games; NHL 54
Draft year +3: AHL 33 games; NHL 47
So can someone explain why in draft years +2 and +3 Schenn could get AHL seasoning, while Bennett couldn't.
