I watched a good chunk of Heat games before his callup and he was typically the best player on the ice most nights too. Not only does he have a canon of a shot, he's got the knack for getting them through, or at the very least, intentionally wide of the net, but still getting the puck deep.
On my Flames depth chart, he's the #5 or 6. I think he's an excellent choice to play 10 minutes a night responsibly, and contribute on the PP as well.
1. Gio
2. Brodie
3. Hamilton
4. Jokipakka
5. Wideman
6. Nakladal
7. Smid (if he ever plays again)
8. AHL guys.

The announcement of muscial acts and the reaction that follows is a true sign that I'm getting old. I read Green Day and I thought "thats better than the usual bands the NHL gets for events". But then I read the responses and people bring me into the now by letting me know that they aren't popular anymore. This reminds me of when U2 put their new record album on iPhones and people were outraged. Wasn't U2 the most popular band in the world? Why are people angry? 'm not a U2 fan but I thought people loved them.
I am hopelessly out of touch with the popular music.

Were they bigger with Dookie or American Idiot? Either way, they haven't had a hit in nearly 10 years...

I think Nakladal is better than wotherspoon, sure, better than Kulak, sure, maybe even better than Wideman, better than Smid...
But none of those guys are guys you would use in a reverse comparison to illustrate how good someone was.
"He was better than wideman" isn't the same as "he was EVEN better than wideman". HIs peer group is nothing to write home about so yeah, he looks decent.
Take a look at rosters around the league though and it's obvious he's not exactly coveted. Heck, the Flames haven't even re-signed him.
He reminds me a lot of Steffan Kronwall.

I think this issue is being massively overplayed on these boards this summer.
The players play every game to win. Nakladal was trying to earn a job as an NHLer.
Were a few of the games at the end of the season meaningless? Definitely.
Should we throw out, or put an asterisk, beside his entire body of work? Ridiculous, IMO.

Yes, but his team mates around him weren't all going at 100%, or playing with the intensity they would have been had the Flames been in the hunt. How would he have done when his defense partner was moving, making decisions just that fraction quicker and harder? How would he have done if the forwards were moving quicker out the zone and he needed to be just that little bit more accurate.
Not to mention, how many games did he get vs. other teams that were out of it too and they weren't playing as hard. When you are a team that's in it, even the teams that are done get up to play you and play spoiller.
Also, we can talk all we want about how much those games likely meant to Nak, and that's likely true, but it gets even harder to perform when you not only have your internal pressure, but the external pressure of not wanting to let your team mates down in a meaningful game.
It might get overstated for sure, but the meaningless games at the end of last year were simply not the same and not as good a test as a meaningful NHL game would be. Too many little factors dialed down a notch or two for it to be the same thing.

Well, so far, 30 NHL teams don't think he's good enough to improve their organizations. You can put an asterisk besides that if you'd like.

I think this is going to be an interesting two weeks in terms of "injuries" keeping players out of the tournament. I expect that a lot of players are going to be dropping out soon. It has started over the last couple days and it should accelerate as the tournament gets closer.
