Hoping for a either a good 2 way d-man with top 4 potential or physical top 6 winger. Would be very happy with either Zboril or Svechnikov.

If we could get Carlo with any of our seconds or moving up in the second some how i would be happy. He appears to be a great fluid skater, especially for someone his age and size. I have the feeling that he will really be a player one day.

I wouldn't mind Zboril; just hope we take at least 2 D with those first 4 picks

I stand by my quote that this is such a deep draft that the Flames could (should) pick one of
1.Kylington
2.Carlo
3.Zboril
4.Roy
at 15 (maybe get a later 1st)
5.Meloche
6.Pilon
7.Chabot
8.Andersson
9.Spencer
with the 45th pick

Such a deep draft I only listed the names of defenseman that I like and between that is tons of great players

Kylington and Carlo are both trending downwards and there's an outside shot they could slide to the 2nd round, where I would be very happy to see the Flames pick either.

I like both Roy and Zboril for our pick at 15. Though Roy is a bit smallish I think he'd fit in well with the Bob Hartley defence strategy. Zboril looks really solid but is unspectacular. He'd probably be a great pick but there's something unsexy about picking a defenceman like him when there are potential top 6 forwards on the board.

Unless one of Hanifin, Provorov or Werenski happen to slide to us (or we trade up to pick them) I'm hoping for one of goal-scoring forwards with our 1st rounder.

Tbh I would be happy with Carlo at 15 or trading down for him if we know he wont make it out of the 1st.

He is my fav d-man in this draft outside the top guys who will obviously be gone.

The only changes I'd make would be to put Chabot in the top end of that, probably over Roy. The small skilled defenseman isn't something this team is short of, they need more players with a physical edge that play more of a complete game and can shut down/punish the other team more. It would be great to be able to get someone like Kylington (who I think this team should really get eve though they have a lot of puck movers just because he has #1 potential and I think would flourish in the Flames system) or Carlo who I really really like. It would really help the Flames system if they made their first 2-3 picks all defensemen

I agree, and still would prefer Kylington at #15. He might be the only available D who has real top pairing potential.
Though he is sliding, I find it almost impossible to think he will be around at #45, not with so many teams owning multiple picks (and therefore can probably more easily justify taking a "gamble" on him)

great point. I've been big on Kylington all year and wouldn't really be upset if the Flames took a gamble on him at 15 or somehow made a deal to pick up another late first if he's available.

It might just be the limited video sample but he appears to score all his goals from withing 5 feet of the goalie. Has anyone seen him enough to comments further on his skills?

RW Brock Boeser
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=248381
  • unique player, reminds Button of Jamie Langenbrunner in terms of effort
  • a lot of players after they get into position need to get their hands set to shoot
  • Boeser sets his hands while he is getting into position, which makes it difficult for goaltenders to adjust/react to his shot (real unique skill)
  • big time competitor
  • scores goals multiple ways - off the attack, off the cycle, by posting up

RW Brock Boeser - 6'1'' 192lbs
http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=248381
continually shows he has big time NHL talent
he is unique in that he can create offensive opportunities in many ways
he can do it with power, he can do it with playmaking - really smart player and he has a really good finishing touch
he can score in tight, he can score from 30 feet, he can score off the rush, he can score off the cycle
players have to get their hands set to shoot. a lot of players will set their hands to shoot only after they get into position. Boeser's hands are always set to shoot. That always beats the goaltenders.
Last guy to remind Button of Boeser's hands is Mike Bossy
Button also gave him:
Skating 4/5
Smarts 4/5
Shot 4/5
Hands 4/5
Compete Level 5/5

Friedman on the FAN was speculating that the Yotes like Strome and the Leafa like Marner saying Hanifin could be there at 5. I wish we could get that pick from Carolina. Adding a Dman like Hanifin is exactly what the Flames need

This would be amazing, I just can't see Hanifin being passed up by the leafs. If it does go that way and he's available at 5, we could actually make something work with the canes. I don't know if it would be so much giving them what they'd want more than taking something they don't want. A Ward for Hiller trade makes sense but I don't think that's enough to move from 15 to 5. I could see the Canes wanting us to take Semin off their hands and if it mean getting Hanifin, I think it's wroth it. Maybe something like:

Ward, 5th overall, Semin, 35th for Hiller, 15th, Granlund (or other prospect) 45th.

We'd give up one of our prospects and take back a bad contract in Semin but we'd move up 10 spots with each of our first 2 picks.

After losing Sekera it's kind of exactly what the Canes need too.

Lot of speculation that Columbus will package the 8th OA and Rychel to move up and draft Hanifin.

I feel like Columbus is better off just drafting Werenski/Provorov at #8. Surely one of them is going to be there.

IMO, that is overpayment. I'd rather have Provorov/Werenski and Rychel than just Hanifan.

Flames beat writers did their mocks today.

1 writer had Kylington, 2 had the Flames taking Merkley , another had the Flames taking Chabot and the last one had the Flames taking Zboril.

This draft is all of over the place.
