I would personally love to have a year of Jagr - still one of my favorite players.
I do, however, think that he wants to stay in NJ. He made it clear that he prefers to stay there than get traded to a contender at this past deadline. Seems to have found a good home there I think.
Still, you never know - with the rumors that Jagr 'needs' money, one can never be so sure. It does appear NJ is at least his first choice, but I am also sure he would like the experience of playing in a Canadian market (though apparently, the Habs were his first choice in that regard, but doubtful that they would fit him in with their current lineup and direction - at least probably not for a whole season).
Back to Cammalleri - I guess few are surprised that it seems Cammalleri is headed for free agency. It would be in his best interest to find term and at least a team further ahead towards being a competitor. He had a relatively poor season for the most part, but has caught fire of late. Having his injury history in the last couple of years probably just further solidifies his decision to get both term and the right environment for himself.

Cammy is going to go where they pay him the most, like just about every free agent does. When people talk about "he can sign with a contender because he wants to win" they fail to mention that the majority of contenders don't have the room to sign him. I just checked on Capgeek and the following "contenders" payroll for next year is below:
TeamCap 2014-15 Signed Players Key guys to sign
Bos 68 63 18 Iggy
Chi 68 68 20
Col 68 48 18 O'Reilly, Statsny
LA 68 56 17
NYR 68 56 14
Pha 68 59 16
Pitt 68 55 14
SJ 68 59 17
ST. Louis 68 46 16 Berglund, Sobotko, Schwartz
So which of these teams do you see him signing with? I honestly don't see that great of a market for him to sign with a "contender". I think whomever offers him the most money will get him.
I also don't see the great playoff performer everyone keeps talking about. He had one good postseason with Montreal and that is it.

While I'm as disappointed as anyone that Cammy didn't net a good return, I'd like to believe that his time here after the deadline is worth well more the team then a 3rd rounder would have gotten. Since that time he's elevated his play and the team had a great month of March. Hopefully all the rookies in the lineup saw him raise his level of play and will have learned from that.
Simply put, if the team trades Cammy, I don't think we would have won near as many games as we did given the amount he's scored. The Flames look to not only finish the year playing strong, we still retain a great draft pick. I don't both those things happen together without Cammy and his leadership.

i'm undecided on this. seems like not getting traded due to not getting value was a wake up call, and #13 has gone into "contract year" mode all of a sudden. As per last night's burke interview , cammalleri thinks he will get more on the open market than the the current offer on the table from the flames.
had he worked half as hard earlier in the year he could have yielded assets at the deadline. He didn't, is likely realizing that his value on the market is concerningly low, and has ramped up his play. Good for him. Good for the flames? Well ya, flames were a better team for the X weeks after the trade deadline, but i think it will easily be forgotten and come July1 flames fans will be again wondering why we he wasnt' moved at the deadline.

It sounded like people are thinking Cammy signs with another team. With the update on the title saying likely heading to free agency by OP, where did you hear this? Did Cammy or his agent announced this or this is just pure speculation?

I think its based on what Burke said during the Leafs game. Burke says there is a contract offer still on the table for Cammalleri which he believes to be fair for both parties. However there was some doubt in his tone of voice - which IMO Cammy is/has deciding to go to free agency because he think he can get a better contract offer.

brian burke was interviewed last night during intermission on sportsnet.
He stated cammalleri has not accepted the flames current offer and feels he can get more on july1st.
With him playing in complete "contract year" mode, i think he's probably right. I think he walks come Jul1st. My money is on a Californian team.

Burke interview last night said he offered Cammy a contract but Cammy feels he could do better July 1st.

Just speculation. Burke was on during intermission last night and he said that Cammy was going to free agency but he didn't say that Calgary wasn't in the running.
I just think another team will make him an offer he can't turn down, especially if it's a contender. I think Cammy wants to win and that isn't in Calgary's future in the next couple of years.

I shudder at this idea. Callahan is after 5.5M + per season. He's already 29 - by the time our team is competing at the top, he'll be an anchor of a contract. He's a 30-40 pt winger that is best suited to play 3rd line minutes.
No thank you. I'd sooner continue to watch other players develop and grow into that role.
I'll be sad if Cammy doesn't come back, but what will happen will happen - the time for action has passed. We've offered him a contract, we'll see what comes of it all.

Hey guys, did Burke say Cammalleri was going to free agency during the intermission yesterday?

No kidding. Callahan is going to be this year's Clarkson if he gets what he's asking for.

Burke said a lot of things in the past that was the opposite of what happenned. I guess we'll just wait until after the season then. There is a possibility that Cammy and his agent just does not want to talk contract during the season. So it is pure speculation on Burke's part then.

Realistically if Cammalleri wants to test the market and gets a better offer this summer than what the Flames presented, chances are the team signing him is going to regret it in 2-3 years.
It is too bad about not getting anything in a trade for him, but if the offer was a 3rd round pick...setting the precedent of not giving away players may be worth it. Especially for a team with a reputation of getting fleeced in previous trades consistently.

I'm hoping for this.
If it's money he wants, we have the space for it. Burke could sign him and then trade to contender of Mike's choice while retaining a hefty chunk of salary to make the cap hit to the cap-strangled contenders less tight.
-Calgary gets assets from a contender (very likely a pick/prospect) in return for a 25-30 goal scorer with an attractive cap hit
-Cammalleri gets what he wants, money and to play on a contender team
Everybody wins!
