Following the transaction, TC Energy will focus on natural gas infrastructure as well as nuclear, pumped hydro energy storage and new energy opportunities.
Sounds kind of cool. I hope that takes off for them.

Kind of reverse layoffs in that a new company needs a legal team, HR, IT and all that stuff.

So why haven't Oil Companies started rebranding layoffs as reverse-hiring?

Suncor laid off people today that relocated from Toronto last fall.

My wife used to work there, but left for another opportunity last year. They've started an alumni group chat and there are people being added constantly.

It sounds absolutely brutal.

That's a dick move but I guess you can't people on forever. Oil is having a really good couple of weeks too. I imagine a company like that would treat people like that well.

Not like a Harvest would.

Sounds like people are Uber pissed that they never cut as much as announced in recent years leading to this massacre at the hands of the new CEO.

Suncor barely had any cuts during the downturn and now when oil is $90 its a 20% reduction. I get the anger, but at least people aren't entering a barren labor market with no opportunities, like people experienced in 2015-2017.

The decades long, constant shuffling of Petrocan/Suncor people between Calgary and Toronto has always been so bizarre to me.

Is it mostly Bonavista staff getting cut or Tourmaline? I'm actually joining Tourmaline later this month.

Some people (myself included) have decided to leave Suncor recently, and nobody is being replaced without direct approval from ol Freddy Kruger. So everyone has to take on even more work in addition to the extra work from the 1,500 people let go.

I get it as a shareholder, but its really a crappy environment as an employee.

To say morale is at an all time low, would be an understatement.

It's shocking how inefficient and onerous their systems are. But I don't believe they've recognized that nor have a concerted effort to "right-size" and make them less process-heavy.

Good luck! Contrary to (some) popular belief, there is life after TC

Upper management is an old boys club. Tons of managers and directors making good money with parking allowance, and not having any direct reports. While team leads or supervisors have anywhere from 7-10 reports. It's a bad system they have in place. I can see them going back to layoffs every two years like they did prior to covid.
