That Superman trailer does nothing for me. I am old school I guess and unless there is a Christopher Reeve clone out there and good practical effects, I am out.
All of these superhero movies that continue to look like the result of some kid bashing random buttons on his controller playing Super Smash Bros on his Nintendo are boring AF.

From what I've read elsewhere, they're not really jamming a bunch of characters we need to learn about, into the story. They are there to service the story line of an established "old fashioned" Superman who exists in a world with other heroes that have questionable morals and methods.
I've come to enjoy Man of Steel, but I can't say that I wasn't disappointed when I finally saw it in theatre's after the extreme hype of its marketing campaign.
I just want a great Superman movie.
I don't need Gone with the Wind or anything, just a really good Superman story.
This teaser looks great to me.
I'm not a fanboi, but I do have Marvel fatigue. I think k there is room for some unique DC stories.
Good enough to peak my interest. The idea of an actual strong DC movie franchise (ignoring the Batman trilogy) is just too compelling. I hope they get it right this time.
The best version was the old Justice League animated series, and some of the movies that followed.
The JLA series nailed it, so good. Especially as it got going into the subsequent seasons. Definitely a very comic accurate portrayal but also just appealing to all audiences as a good all around show.
I have faith in Gunn. He has done a lot of great work as we've witnessed with comic book characters. Especially more obscure comic book characters.
I think his biggest strength is choosing the right person for the right roles.

Your over-abundance of faith disturbs me.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
That might genuinely be the worst trailer for a superhero film I have ever seen. It went from “alright this could be OK” directly down the toilet as soon as the stupid dog appeared and just kept getting worse.

Yeah I don’t want to be too cynical but it’s going to take more than a slowed down version of the Superman music to call that a great trailer. Just a bunch of random scenes and characters.
The beginning of that Superman trailer is kind of fantastic as a mission statement. "Home... Take me home."
The Snyderverse was crap, let's get back to what Superman is supposed to be: an uplifting and fun comic book hero.
Personally, I've never been a huge Superman fan, but I have a lot of faith that James Gunn can deliver another superhero movie that's more interesting than good, but still a solid 7-8/10 as entertainment.
The trailer is certainly getting reactions out of people, both extremely positive and negative, which is probably the best way to get people talking about your movie.
The DCEU already tried that with the Justice Society in Black Adam. It wasn't well received. These guys have enough on their plate, making a realistic time piece is an added hurdle they don't need. Just focus on making a good film.
Doing Black Adam vs Hawkman etc... is a farcry from a Batman 50's detective story and a Superman nuclear deterrent Cold War allegory actually set against the Cold War, perhaps a Green Lantern that challenges civil rights issues and WonderWoman set within the women's liberation movement ...oh wait...its almost like thats what this all was in the first place....
That trailer seems to be really hitting home with people to whom Superman is an important character. Lots of comments about how this looks like the Superman they want, and have been longing for. That feels right.
The Snyderverse Superman always felt like "Superman for people who don't like Superman".

I was disappointed it wasn't scrappy-doo

I generally liked the trailer as a trailer (doesn't mean I'll like the movie). Doesn't give the whole plot away, using music based on the John Williams score, not much dialogue. Maybe gave away too much about the other characters appearing. Really I wish more trailers were like that instead of the typical "here's the whole plot of the movie in 2 minutes."

You're going to be limiting yourself to essentially just the main DC characters, but I suppose that's not a horrible thing. Most of what we consider now as a far as DC characters, especially side characters, were created or heavily updated in the 80s/90s, so these guys won't translate well into the 50s era.
From the looks of it, DC is trying to build a larger universe still....which may be a bad decision.
Then you've got another challenge of appealing the nerds, who are going to pick apart every piece of fashion/technology that's not entirely time accurate.
A movie or two in the 50s could be easily done, but an entire universe is more of a challenge.
That trailer actually intrigued me, just because it was so Gunn.
Whereas all the Snyder trailers were so monotonous and pretentious that nothing about them ever deviated from their terrible formula to surprise or delight you. Other than some character tease, which is an overcooked gimmick.
It's clear right from the reveal of the dog that this new iteration won't take itself nearly as seriously and might actually be fun.

Superman is usually pretty lighthearted to begin with. We basically haven't seen a superman smile for significant amounts of time since Reeve in 1987. Even "Superman Returns" was pretty gloomy.
Part of his character is that he's the "Boy Scout". He has immense power but was also raised on a farm in Kansas. He's supposed to be a super positive person.
