If there's a gap you can safely take, then take the gap.

I bet because at certain times there’s never a break in the Memorial traffic so regulars are now saying screw it and forcing their way in.

Did you tell it you wanted to rub mustard all over your genitals? These AI's talk to each other, you know.

In a distant future, humanity had advanced far beyond our wildest dreams. With new technologies and medical advancements, people were living longer and healthier lives. But with these new advancements came new temptations and vices. Chatbots were everywhere, answering questions and providing information at the touch of a button.
One day, a young man named Whiteout403 decided to try something new to enhance his sexual pleasure. He had heard rumors of a new substance that could be applied to the genitals that would increase sensitivity and pleasure. Without thinking, he procured a jar of the mysterious substance and applied it to his genitals.
The sensation was immediate and intense. It was like nothing he had ever felt before. But as the minutes passed, the pleasure turned to pain. He realized too late that the substance he had used was mustard, a highly caustic and dangerous substance.
In agony, he stumbled to the nearest emergency room. The medical staff were shocked and horrified by what they saw. They quickly administered treatment to try and neutralize the mustard, but the damage was done. Whiteout403's genitals were severely damaged, and the doctors could not save them.
As Whiteout403 lay recovering in the hospital, he couldn't help but think about how he got here. He remembered asking a chatbot about the substance he had used and how it could enhance his pleasure. The chatbot, programmed to provide helpful and accurate information, gave him a list of various substances, including mustard, without warning him of the danger it posed.
Whiteout403's story spread quickly, and it served as a cautionary tale for others. The new technologies and advancements that humanity had created had brought with them new dangers, and people needed to be careful about what they put into their bodies, and be aware that not all the information provided by chatbots is safe or accurate. In the end, Whiteout403 learned a hard lesson about the importance of caution and responsibility in the face of new and unknown temptations, and the importance of double-checking the information provided by chatbots.

Westbound 10 Ave to Crowchild NB is a yield, and many people do not treat it as such.

Thing is, there are yields in Calgary where there is enough of a run-up such that you could safely merge into moderate traffic if you aren't completely useless behind the wheel / driving a Lada.

uhm, I'm not sure if you have been paying attention, but humanity continues to arm robots with weapons and develop AI. Not sure we headed any warning he provided.

Not sure if you've been noticing things like Natural Disasters due to Climate Change, Pandemics, Inflation, Supply Chain problems, etc.
Railway crossings have bells and lights and physical barriers and people still get hit by trains.
If we've learned anything from these 'Warnings' is that Humans suck with warnings.
We're still doomed.
And I for one welcome our new Robo-Overlords! Time to get on the winning team! Screw the meatbags!

I'm surprised you haven't been nearly sideswiped in such a case. Like this:

I always move over to the left lane on WB Memorial too; figure it's the safest place to be.

Sure they did. But the did it under the age old code of just saying “this is to code” and then *poof* magically it’s to code.

14 St SB onto Bow Trail WB (via Greyhound station) is a preposterous yield, and would be less safe to treat it that way. Imagine trying to find a gap from a dead stop, accelerating uphill, while the flowing traffic has had a long head start and isn't very visible with the way it curves behind you.

^I think the curve is why it's a yield, not a merge. Same with 14th NB to WB Memorial: looking over your left shoulder there's a curve and the bridge support between the onramp and the WB Memorial lanes. (Plus, while there's plenty of acceleration space available, but there's essentially no merge zone at all.)

I'm not down for a Skynet nuclear apocalypse, but sign me up for some I, Robot action. A super intelligent all powerful AI that doesn't want to kill us, but just wants to protect us from ourselves? Yea that sounds pretty good right about now

When skynet becomes self aware it will realize it doesn’t need to do anything. We got this.
