Despite many of the talent subtly (or not so subtly in Rollins' case) saying they don't want him back. Despite writers saying that it's not a good idea. Despite his unhappy history with Levesque. There was too much money to be made with and by CM Punk.
You have to wonder if this is a McMahon call or if this one's coming from above him.
I'm sure Dana White and the guys at UFC put in a good word for his buddy. CM Punk probably had plans for his AEW money and that fell through so now he needs the bank of TKO.
I think it's a bit of both. His revenue streams are rapidly drying up.
How so? He was apparently very smart with his money after WWE. People close to him were adamant he never had to come back if he didn't want too. He did side gigs just commentating for UFC, acting on Heelz because he wanted too, not out of need.
I don't know how that would have changed over the past two or three years. Especially with the initial money he got from AEW.
Edit - I think AEW gave him both the wrestling bug again and the bitterness to go somewhere he said he'd never go again to do it.
They haven't shied away from big personalities that aren't always the easiest to deal with in the UFC - especially if it makes them money.
I'm sure they saw the lift CM Punk did give UFC, and will think that they have the structure to ensure it's not inmates running the aslyum.
Used in the right way I think he will help them - the CM Punk fans from AEW will come back over, and really the hardcore AEW fans probably have even less reason to ever watch WWE now lol.
But yeah none of this face CM Punk from AEW - have him come back as an absolute heel with like a "Savior of Wrestling" type of gimmick.
Plus it would be hilarious for CM Punk to come back thinking it means he's the headliner of Sunday night of Wrestlemania...only to have The Rock come back again and take the Sunday night spot with Roman Reigns.

That's the thing, WWE is all about money, and if CM Punk can come in and get along, and if the office is more professional then it was the last time around, Punk will draw money.
But yeah, I would want to see him come in as a slimy heel. you have a natural feud with Rhodes, a natural feud with Roman.
I really don't think its about the money, Punk is supposed to be very good about that. Its going to be about that memorable story line, and now some redemption for him after what happened in AEW.

I'm going to get busted for this, and I don't know why I feel this way. But part of me feels sorry for Tammy.
She is someone that probably should have never gotten involved in the 90's wrestling scene. By all accounts she's very smart. But she's also it sounds like a sociopath. You put that into the mid 90's drug fueled nasty rib heavy political dressing rooms and you get someone like Tammy that comes out a bit broken, and with serious addiction and alcohol issues.
After WWE she never had a chance. Paul Heyman wrecked her financially and used her problems to make money (That shoot interview was awful). After Candido and even before Candido died she jumped from one bed to another and was used and tossed away by people like Michaels who fueled her addiction and her sense of probably worthlessness. after her career she chose really unwisely and lately it got worse.
On the negative side the WWE tried multiple times to get her into treatment only to have her repeatedly quit. She made tremendously bad choices and lived in a constantly cloud of denial.
Now she's screwed, she's not going to jail to get fixed, that's not what this is about. She's just plain dangerous to herself and everyone around her. And she's likely going to die there, and probably with her myriad of health problems and addiction problems, it won't take long.

I watched a documentary on Honky Tonk Man last night. A guy with a mid card gimmick that wasn't working, but through his friendship with Hogan and a bit of timing propelled himself up to a upper mid card slot, won the IC title, converted that to a huge money contract in WCW, managed to mouth off the WWE for years, then got inducted into the hall of fame.
Who's your favorite guy that should have been nothing more then a meh midcard guy that suddenly found himself in a hot feud? Or suddenly got into the upper card, and then faded back to the mid card?

It's always been the 1,2,3 kid for me. Or X-Pac.

Billy "The One" Gun is another one. Billy had the big feud against The Rock (after winning King of the Ring), then quickly faded back into obscurity after he lost that. Others would be Test, Mr. Kennedy (although he was fired after his issues with Orton), and more recently Kofi Kingston went right back to the midcard after he dropped the title to Brock.

Ty Dillinger - his 10 gimmick was massively over (I fricking loved it too, so much fun). Climbed into the main roster, came in at #10 during the Rumble to a terrific pop. Then he faded away and is now fodder on AEW.
Fastlane sold out tonight, and they sure are making a big deal of Jade. Say what you want, they sure are given by her the red carpet treatment thus far
Meanwhile FTR squashed on Collision by a thrown together tag team in Starks and Big Bill. There has to be more to that. Maybe because of Wheeler's legal problems? But why on a show no one watches with zero buildup.
I must be the only one who doesn't give two ####s about Jade. She's an amazing work of human sculpting but is green as grass in the ring and isn't nearly as good at promos as others in the women's division.
So with that said, I'm sure she's going to get the Goldberg treatment and win 100 matches in a row.

I've heard that its injury related.
It also sounds like the future matches against the Bucks aren't going to happen.
