again, nothing definitive, but sounds like the Habs would be packaging a first with Galchenyuk in the deal.

Whoa. I think Drouin will be a little more dynamic, but that is a lot to pay.

Good deal for Tampa who ran into injury problems with their centers last season. Would be nice for them to have a guy that can shift over to the middle for a time.

Yeap, unfortunately we don't have the assets needed that we'd be willing to part with at this point.

Wow that would be an amazing deal for Tampa, if true. I'd do that as a straight up swap. Need to draft francophones if you are going to fleece Montreal

Namely a player named Jean Guy l'Patate, or similar

I see it as an amazing deal for Montreal, right now I'd take Drouin over Galchenyuk in a heartbeat.

Package up Ryan Culkin and Emile Poirier? They're francophone.

Yeah, I highly doubt that's all it would take to acquire Neal. The guy is under 30, a year removed from a 30+ goal season (as well as a 30+ goal career average), has a 40 goal season under his belt and even in his down year this year he was on pace for 27 goals. His contract has a year remaining at a reasonable cap-hit. You're not getting him for a mid 2nd round pick in a weak draft.

It does seem odd that we are so worried to lose players who didn't even come close to getting it done. I think Backlund is a good player too but where was he down the stretch and in the playoffs? He is certainly not untouchable.
|
What are you reading lately? Things are not as bad as you think. Backlund played great down the stretch and you need players to build a team. Ferland and Backlund are good and great players respectively, you can't just move on and hope to find those two again. Ferland may be playing in the wrong spot but he fills a big need.
I keep repeating myself but if Backlund was to leave about 5 minutes in the first period of the first game of the season we would be begging, absolutely begging for a "Backlund type" player.

The rumor is that Nashville will be leaving Neal exposed, and therefore might rather get a 2nd & 3rd instead of losing him for nothing.
If that isn't the case, then I agree that's not enough. I guess we'll find of Monday.

What are you talking about? What hasn't gone right for the Flames? ... Really odd post considering the position we're in: Great young core, above average GM, promising young coach, team is trending upwards... honestly what is going wrong with the Flames, I'm curious as to what you are looking at.
Sure, we whiffed on goaltending, but that is a tough position to fill.

Losing Ferland is a PR nightmare? Maybe here on this forum. The love affair with players here can reach great unsubstantiated heights sometimes. Heck, I'm guilty of it too in regards to Hudler. I think LV would rather get Ferland or Shinkaruk than Brouwer. There's plenty of cap space to eat up out there. LV is going to grab as much youth as they can. And I think spector does have a couple of things right. Their AGM is a big Ferland fan, so much so that letting them take Ferland could net the Flames a better piece in more important areas like defense. Or gasp, a goalie.

People get hard-ins for players with grit and fighting abilities. Hence Ferland is so loved among the fans

Yea that's the only reason. Not because he's a talented young hockey player that still has a ton of untapped potential.

He's a 25 year old player that has 48 points in 173 career games. How much untapped potential do we really there is there?
I realize he's a late bloomer but he's also probably largely a finished product.

Ferland will be protected, Brouwer won't and will not be taken. Kulak or Shinky is as good as gone.
Just because Knights have a blank slate doesn't mean it will waste cap space, let's face it that's what Brouwer's contract is. Running the sims I had a tough time staying under the cap if you take BPA from each team.
