Well that was even more annoying than the first. WestJet issues lockout notice after union reissues strike notice.

Quote:
In response, WestJet issued a lockout notice as this ensures we are able to manage the impact to our guests and safely maintain control of our operations. A work stoppage could occur as early as Friday, June 28 at 5:30 p.m. MT as a result, unless an agreement is reached or the Canadian Industrial Relations Board (CIRB) orders arbitration.
So would a 9:55am flight June 28 to the states be effected? Or am I back to finding other options again?

I've been told that the mechanics are no longer bargaining and that they are walking out this weekend which plays into the lockout expectation. Supposedly this is going to be a pretty long term move this time.

Looks like I'm probably driving to Victoria on Saturday. So that burns a day of the vacation on either end. Nice.

Very true. That's on my list on this unexpected morning tasks. I just need to figure out if we're going to do this in one sitting (risky with the ferry, even with an early start), or leaving the day before and finding a place in Kamloops for the night.

This should be extremely embarrassing for the company, but I really don't think they care at all. What a joke for them to say this has been halted and bargaining will resume to less than a week later be back in the same position.

Stop playing games with the union and your customers travel plans and get an agreement done.

Hopefully they can come to some sort of resolution or at least (re)start the discussions. After working at WestJet for 12 years (left a couple of years ago) it's disappointing to see how the company as turned out. From a selfish perspective, we were planning on taking the family to LAX on Tuesday for our summer-time Disneyland trip. I hope that we can still do that.

I think the opposite. Union doesn’t like first offer after agreeing to 4 days of negotiations on day 1. They immediately pull out the nuclear option so WestJet responds with the lockout

So I'm reserved for the ferry (I lose $20 each way on the reservation, if I cancel. Cheap insurance.), with the assumption that we will find a place to stop in Kamloops or Kelowna on the way there and back. We are fortunate to have the flexibility to leave a day early and return a day later. I shelved the idea of doing it in one sitting. In my younger years, I did Calgary to Seattle in one day, but I was a lot younger then, no kid, etc. and I just can't be bothered to do that again. Would rather break it up a bit.

Still not jazzed about spending that much time in the car (and I don't mind driving, generally), but I feel comfortable with my backup plan, should I need it.

If this strike is averted then I am out $40 on the ferry reservations. Everything else is changeable/refundable if needed, and the airfare refund can offset gas and extra accommodation.

From what I heard the negotiations were a joke. WestJet just comes in with the same offer that had been rejected before and refused to budge

Either way stay in for the 4 days you committed or at least longer than 1. Not a good look from the outside. You give it a at least more than a millisecond try and my opinion as an outsider changes.

They know what WJ is trying to do though. They just want to drag this out until the government arbitrator steps in and says 'fine, we'll do something'

They agreed to go back to negotiations assuming there would be negotiating.

Did the union offer any new concessions from their previous position?

Good question, and I haven't heard much there. My understanding from the last time around is that is they cut back what they're asking for raises, as long as WJ doesn't gut their savings plans.

Keep in mind all my info is secondhand as well. Edit: And he's not a mechanic so his info is secondhand too
