1 year due to pressure to get somethimg done would be delicious, as would failing to reach an agreement by his deadline.

His long term ask has to be well out of their big trio budget. Dude has no obligation to take a discount because they threw too much dough at Nurse and Campbell.

If Draisaitl is worth $14.7 million, Keller is worth $12 million. If Keller is worth $12 million, Jarvis is worth $10 million. And so on until you get to Blake Coleman being worth $7 million.

I know that’s not an exactly how it ends up working but I think that’s the thought process for the argument that the Players Association would push the top guys to take as much as they can.
I don't know how the other leagues work and putting aside the fallacy of trickle-down economics for the moment, under the NHL's cap system, that thought process is senseless. As I said in my earlier post, there's one pie per team. If some players get bigger slices, other players get smaller pieces because there is only so much pie to go around.

There isn't any complexity to this; no complex (or otherwise) economic theory changes the math. If the NHLPA is too dense to figure this out, they should be replaced.

The NHLPA wants the pie to get bigger. They think if the higher salaries cause a cap crunch and lower the bottom end salaries, there will be pressure to increase the cap, not pay top end guys less.

Plus, the higher and mid range guys are their actual constituency over the long run. Bottom end guys are out of the league in pretty short order on the average.

I hope he is still unsigned by the young stars tournament so I can ask the oilers about their non existent prospects and any updates on the Draisaitl contract.

If I were Conroy I'd sign an absolute pylon of a defenseman to a PTO and then figure out which preseason game Edmonton is playing their weaker team against us, put out our best lineup and pair the pylon with Weegar to try and make him look good so that when the Oilers are desperate a week before the start of the season they'll sign him.

That is of course unless they don't just do something like that on their own volition first.

What would an offer sheet to Drysaddle look like?

Might be worth it to watch Oiler fans lose their minds.

Are you crazy? If I'm the Oilers and a team offer-sheeted Drysaitl I wouldnt be able to get him to the airport fast enough.

First of all, it would almost certainly mean 4 First round picks.

Secondly, for a 30 year old.

"Start the car."

Do they even have enough prospects to ice a team for that tournament?

It's irrelevant anyway. Draisaitl is under contract for next season so isn't eligible for an offer sheet, and then a UFA after that. It would just be a regular contract offer at that point.

As for what that contract would look like, it would be 7 years at whatever the max AAV allows.

"The talking heads were saying 13.25. I wonder if a number like that is floated so that we are thrilled with 12.75"

They said this when Nurse was rumored around 7. Which would make sense, since 7 would've been a MASSIVE overpay...

The only time this actually happened was when McDavids contract number was finally arrived at. Then they went to the Bumonton Basement Blogger Batch to put out articles $500k higher so it looked publicly like McD did them a solid.

Bumonton Basement Blogger Batch has a nice ring to it.

Think they fill out their roster by seeing if anyone in the crowd has their equipment in their car.

There's no such thing as an offer sheet to a UFA.

Remember too, Draisital got married this summer. Priorities changing, new life and all that, if he chooses to use that as a reason for moving on.

If so, hope the wife mutes her social media becuase hell hath no fury like Oiler fans scorned, dusty memories of Janet pulling Wayne away to LA and all that.

I think I’m going to call this season the Leon draisaitl farewell tour. It leads to delicious statements like “this is pissy’s last game in Pittsburgh as an oiler”. The unwashed will lose their minds!
