Eh?
Or the US realizes the reality of the situation on the ground where Hamas is intentionally stopping aid from reaching the people.
The port will give the US & the UN more control over the situation.

Shameless.
Will say anything to justify deliberate starvation of a population.

The alternative "reality of the situation on the ground" as per the EU.
Quote:
Starvation is being used as a weapon of war in Gaza, the EU's foreign policy chief has claimed.
Josep Borrell described the lack of aid entering the territory as a "manmade" disaster.....
.. The quickest, most effective way to get aid into the territory is by road, but aid agencies say Israeli restrictions mean a fraction of what is needed is getting in ....
... Attention has instead shifted towards alternative routes including sea and air drops.
On Tuesday, a UN World Food Programme convoy used a land route to deliver aid to northern Gaza for the first time in three weeks.
The trucks used an Israeli military road running along Gaza's border fence, Jamie McGoldrick, UN aid coordinator for the Occupied Palestinian Territory, told Reuters.
Enough food for 25,000 people was delivered to Gaza City, with WFP spokesperson Shaza Moghraby saying they were hoping to "scale up" deliveries, but "need access to be regular and consistent".
Israel says it is not to blame for Gaza's food shortages as it is allowing aid through two crossings in the south.
But addressing the UN Security Council in New York on Tuesday, Mr Borrell said the humanitarian crisis in the territory was as a result of a lack of viable land routes.
"We are now facing a population fighting for their own survival," he said.
"Humanitarian assistance needs to get into Gaza, and the European Union is working as much as we can in order to make it possible.
"[The humanitarian crisis is] manmade and when we look for alternative ways of providing support by sea, by air, we have to remind [ourselves] that we have to do it because the natural way of providing support through roads is being... artificially closed.
"Starvation is being used as a war arm and when we condemned this happening in Ukraine, we have to use the same words for what is happening in Gaza."

Maybe it's time we put some sanctions in Israel? Starving a society to death seems kinda bad, no? Anyone? Anyone?

Pretty damning report as well by the UN after they concluded their investigation around the incident where the IDF killed a Reuters reporter.
https://www.reuters.com/world/middle...rt-2024-03-13/
Quote:
"The firing at civilians, in this instance clearly identifiable journalists, constitutes a violation of UNSCR 1701 (2006) and international law," the UNIFIL report said, referring to Security Council resolution 1701.
|
Quote:
The investigation by the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL), summarized in a report seen by Reuters, said its personnel did not record any exchange of fire across the border between Israel and Lebanon for more than 40 minutes before the Israeli Merkava tank opened fire.
...
Besides killing Abdallah, the two tank rounds also wounded six other journalists at the scene.
|
Not sure what this will mean at the end of the day. Firing tank rounds at a group of clearly identifiable journalists unprovoked seems like something that would be condemned by us in the west and our western governments, and covered for weeks on end (deservedly so) if, say, it were Hamas killing the reporter, but I imagine nothing will come of this due to the "rules-based order" and it being a member of the west being the perpetrator.

Americans need to wake up - I have no idea what the American people get from this alliance wit Israel. - After 9-11 we didn’t receive any aid, only a blackmail request for more money or else new settlements that are illegal would be built. We get nothing of significance from this relationship; in fact we’ve probably gained more enemies.

The why and what they get is actually fairly obvious. But you cannot say it with out being labelled anti-Semitic

About time.
Israel's foreign minister, predictably, came out already slamming Canada's decision saying, 'History will judge Canada's current action harshly.'
https://timesofmalta.com/article/can...israel.1089500
Quote:
Canada is halting its arms shipments to Israel, a Canadian government source told AFP Tuesday.
The move comes as Ottawa has only exported "non-lethal" shipments such as communications equipment to Israel since the deadly October 7 attacks by Hamas against Israel triggered a war in the Gaza Strip.
No exports have taken place since January, the source added.
Israel has historically been a top receiver of Canadian arms exports, with CAN$21 million worth of military materiel exported to Israel in 2022, according to Radio Canada, following CAN$26 million in shipments in 2021.
That places Israel among the top 10 recipients of Canadian arms exports.

But...but...but how will Israel starve and murder children without Canada's help? Ah, well, I'm sure they'll find a way.

Is this the same Canada that has no problem selling arms to Saudi Arabia, a clear violator of human rights for years?
Okay then, carry on.

Lol... same old crap every time. When no other arguments work, point at another regime and divert attention from the ongoing crimes against humanity.
This arms embargo is monumental and hopefully the first of many against Israel.

Lol I'm pretty sure absolutely everyone sells arms to Saudi. Even Israel themselves a few years back.

Canada has imported $1 billion worth of Israeli military technology over the last 10 years, Canada imports far more goods from Israel than vice versa. There is nothing Canada provides that Israel cannot find elsewhere or make themselves. I would even wager that most of whatever Canada sends to Israel is vastly improved by the Israelis and re-sold back to Canada lol
Maybe Canada should stop purchasing the yearly $75 million of medical equipment they get from the evil Zionists.
Like Q said, the decision is monumental!
Monumentally pointless. Great for pandering to the liberal voting base tho, but also great way to piss off a historically beneficial trade partner and ally.
Given that housing prices are soaring, inflation is sky high, and the average rent for Canadians is $2,300 a month it is very comforting that the Canadian government feels the need to waste time on a conflict they have zero influence on.

Did you just compare life saving tools to tools of war? You know the difference, right?
Speaking of pissing off allies, Israel isn't ingratiating themselves to anyone right now. Maybe they should consider their actions if they want happy trading partners? I know, it's all really confusing.
