How is it that a dozen bridges in BC can get destroyed in the floods and rebuilt in like 6 months but they have been working on that one ####ty bridge for 10 years and it's still not done?

Just drove it this morning, both sides are open but two lanes each way. Still a vast improvement from before though

I'm sure it's already been brought up, but pretty much this exact scenario manifested when it was first built too. It's a cursed bridge that's in groundhog day.

The whole area's been a mess forever.
The bridge that 'opened' yesterday started construction in 2010 along with twinning 22x, 52nd st, McKenzie Lake, Sun Valley interchanges and all opened in late 2013.
While not specifically the Bow River bridge, 22x saw lane restrictions to deal with demolition and construction of the Mcleod Trail interchanges from 2017 to 2021 constantly causing traffic backups.
Eastbound demolition started in spring 2021 and opened in Oct 2023 and all traffic shifted to the eastbound to extend the westbound bridge.
Late 90's early 2000's lights were added the road was twinned; 4 lanes squeezed onto the old bridge. It's been pretty much a construction zone since I graduated from high School in 1998.

This is exactly why:

I know, I just like responding to over-the-top hyperbole with over-the-top 'technically correct' comments.

Funny thing is it is pretty close to 10 years. Closer to the truth then over the top hyerbole. 5 years ago I would not have thought that portion would have been the last portion of the ring road to get done.

Way more that 3, maybe that particular bridge. I lived in Sundance until 2021, it was a mess for a few years prior. Like the poster said, going back to 2017.

Wasn’t that mess previously unrelated to the bridge?

If there were ever a bridge with trolls living under it, it’d definitely be this one. And btimbit would deny their existence.

You didn't mention "years". It'll be about 2 more years while they refurbish the old one, so the new bridge will share both directions of traffic for a while, so I think that 2 lanes each way is all they can fit for now.

And when that is done, they'll shut down the new EB bridge because it will need to be refurbished. It's like printing your own money if you're that contractor!
