Maybe this should go in the "Mental Well-being in an Uncertain Time" thread but I am really struggling with the thought that the only way the Flames have a chance to make the playoffs involves Edmonton winning games.

I will never cheer for the Oilers, if they win, fine. It makes things interesting.
It is out of the Flames control and that sucks.

I will watch some (maybe most, no life here!) and will likely be quietly supporting the Habs.

The result will happen completely indifferent to my cheering or not.

I will also not cheer for the Oilers, would rather miss the playoffs.

If the Oilers win, fine we will take care of our own business. If they lose, good they can enter the playoffs on a cold streak (probably playing the Habs in the first round) and lose four straight. The Oilers are no friggen good.

Freidman is reporting the Oilers working on resigning Adam Larson to a 4 year extension. The one positive of a couple good years from the Oilers is they are focusing on keeping this team together. Hopefully he gets 5 per and nuge gets 7.

Keeping larsson hurts chances for Bouchard or broberg making the team anytime soon. Unless nurse walks

To an AHL team.

Staples must be positively orgasmic. “Oilers in the playoffs (this year for real!) AND Connor going over 100 points and more!!!1!!1. That lousy poopoo pants matthews will have more goals but no one cares about those; goals mean nothing amirite. How many crossovers can Austin even do?”

I’m wondering if this is the year that the Oilers protest that it’s unfair that other teams play 4 lines and the opponent should be forced to go “no line change like in the ea nhls” or all “Vegas had 15 skaters”.

Whoever gets to trade for McAvi is going to get the kijiji advertisement that says “low mileage, never used after early April, summer tires on rims never used” when everyone knows it’s “driven hard, put away wet, always used to pull 20,000 pound trailer of dead weight behind for many entire winters, had many breakdowns but healed itself, runs on fumes most nights, can only go one direction and requires the right of way”.

I’m not thinking Larsson is getting a raise. I may be out to lunch though.

Broberg is Left shot. If Barrie re-signs that would keep Bouchard out but Larsson doesn’t push Bouchard out

Great timing for that guy to finally have a good non injury plagued season. Also good for him that Holland seems all too happy to hand out term based on short term adequacy. If oilers fans are honest, they couldn't wait to get that cap off the books and transition to someone better before the year began.

I must say I do take some pleasure in knowing this is only Edmonton’s second playoff appearance in 15 years and their obnoxious fans can’t be there to see it in person. My real issue with the Oilers isn’t their team, it’s their fans. And I’m glad they aren’t able to go watch.

Good thing that they are backing into the playoff and get swept in the first round!

What’s backing into the playoffs?

I always thought it was going in on the skin of your teeth and losing a bunch of games to end the regular season. Montreal and Jets are backing into the playoffs.

Going 4-1-0 isn’t backing in to me.

Having fans increases hilarity tenfold though. I wish I could dig up the before/after shots of the hideous Oilers suit guy rallying a crowd at Roger's Disgrace with a "believe" sign, then the same sign in the garbage post-game.

What gets me is that they talk like they're an established top 5/10 team despite not even having strung consecutive playoff years together yet with their core, and before they've even played or won a single playoff game this season. Having a guy that will clean up on the hardware front implies very little about the greater team until the team has done anything.

Cracking playoffs after a drought is like step 2 of 5 towards contending in this league and many not very good teams have been there and done that many more times than the Oilers over the past decade.

Always have the cart three miles before the horse.

You think it'd put you even more on the cautious side of optimistic when you're doing it against the fraction of the league in a dogshart division.

They deserve to have the Jets absolutely slam them, until they learn humility.

We finally have a competitive team that this city can be proud of and all the writers of this town choose to focus on is the easy, negative narrative. For once, can we challenge the hacks of this town to stop looking for all that’s wrong and celebrate the positive? Is that too much to ask?
