He's 26 YO, a big 6'3 212 lbs center (another left shot) 3 straight 20 goal seasons (20, 26, 20) 3 straight 40 point seasons (42, 40, 45) all over basically full seasons (82, 81, 81 ; this year a significant drop in production though with all the fire power ahead of him (Tavaras, Bailey, Barzal, Lee, Eberle ect.) I wouldn't trade a big Dman for him at this point... He just doesn't bring enough of what we need to add into the top 6 to spend anything of value on. We have enough of these types of players and/or better... we need to get rid of the dead weight type contracts and this guys statline while solid just doesn't sell me enough to want to acquire him for any kind of significant piece going back.

Any interest from Flames fans? Keep in mind that it came out that Snow isn't reportedly a big fan of Dougie when Hamonic's first trade request became public. Nelson has a cap hit of $2.5 million and RFA after this season, but is one year away from UFA.

Brock Nelson? Monahan, Jankowski, Nelson and Dube as your future centers? Hell yes. Brodie for Nelson and another player or prospect? Pulock on the blueline would be nice, but the Islanders may not be game to give him up. Ho-Sang on the right side? Some intriguing pieces. Maybe the Islanders would like Tyler Wotherspoon as a throw in, so they can have their own brother act on the blueline?

Yeah this is what I am thinking. No way would I want Nelson as the centerpiece of a Brodie trade.

I don't know what's going on with fans these days... normally, most trade proposals are wildly in favour of the home team. But for the last month or so, Flame fans seem determined to trade solid roster players for crap.
How about we stop offering up Brodie, Backlund and Hamilton for magic beans or other teams' garbage?

Has you ever considered that maybe you overrate Flames players and their value? Outside of Hamilton I’ve never seen the fans of other teams overly excited about the players being discussed.
I always approach value in estimating where a player would end up on the other team, and the gauge what that team would give up to acquire a player at that level. Where that guy plays on the Flames is irrelevant.

Scoring Winger

Brock Nelson isn't garbage, he's a goal scorer and this team can definitely use another one.

Brodie for Nelson is probably a lot closer in value than most fans would want to contemplate.

Yeah, if Brock Nelson is crap, what does that make Backlund? Since 2013-14, Nelson has scored the same number of goals (89). Maybe he's not as bad as some make him out to be. Add in the age, size and contract advantage, and he would be a pretty good asset to have moving forward. Definitely fills a gap on the team.

I suppose this a response at my attempt at a proposal.
I will agree the proposal sucked. My thoughts behind it are that if Backlund isn't signed, a cost effective replacement will be paramount. Perhaps our abundance of d can be used to fill the gap, and perhaps Backlund himself could be of value to a team like the isles who hold strong playoff aspirations still thus season.
I suppose if the flames are willing to part ways with Backlund, they would try to get as far as possible this year then try to fill the void in the off-season. However, perhaps this proposal seems more reasonable should the flames fall off and not be in a promising position come deadline.

lol... yeah, you're the only poster who considers trades from both sides. You're amazing.
Comparing Backlund to Nelson, purely on points, says more than enough about your views on Backlund. You're hell bent on trading him, we get it.
Edit: addressed to New Era

I’d rather extend Nelson than Backlund.

No thread is complete without Tinordi telling us that Brodie is worth less than we all think.
