You're really trying to sound like you're a new Flames fan.
Everything you just said is just another day in Flames land.

Hard to fault anyone for going for the bag or not rolling over, but if he's insisting on it surely they'd have to deal him. Arguably you can't have two guys taking up that much, even at Edmonton's asking price. To go over the top to give him $15.5 is putting your team at severe risk of not having much left for the bottom half of the team. Either that or you beef up scouting and hope they hit home runs continuously to fill out the bottom half. As good as McDavid and Draisaitl are I don't think you can allot that much to two guys.

Here is my attempt at what could be considered a realistic attempt at a retool on the fly.
Trade:
To NJ: Markstrom (50% retained) + Mangiapane (50% retained) + 41st pick
To CGY: 10th overall+ Seigenthaler
New Jersey gets some cap flexibility with this move and a goalie and middle 6 forward on good cap hits. Flames get another high pick
Free agency:
Monahan $5.25x3
Debrusk $4.9x5
Tanev $6.25x2 (NMC)
Huberdeau-Monahan-Sharangovich
Zary-Kadri-Kuzmenko
Debrusk-Backlund-Coleman
Pospisil-Schwindt-Coronato
Weegar-Andersson
Seigenthaler-Tanev
Kylington-Miramov
Wolf
Vladar
I don’t think that team is bottom 5 and probably is a team that could compete for a wildcard if things go the right way. They would be adding the 9th, 10th, 28th pick in the draft so building towards the future. Those free agency moves would certainly not be geared toward tanking.

Not sure where to put this or if it’s been posted but boy are there more advantages in Florida than taxes.

Would be really surprised if Monahan would come back and not sure tanev will either.

I just don’t think this needs to be complicated. Markstrom for 10 overall. Then scale back on retention until they agree. Like 25-50% will be required and then move on.

Now I understand why Huby is in year two of his sulk. We have nothing that compares to those facilities. And we are negative a million points for the weather.

It’s snowing in June and the Oilers are the Finals we have a water crisis.
Great times.

I know it's what we usually do. I am just hoping that Conroy is given freedom to make decisions. He has to know that there isn't some quick fix for this team. There are so many holes.
We all want the same thing, to have a team good enough to win the cup.

But it's even more embarassing that Edwards and the rest of the CSEC owners never invested in a practice and training / sports science facility like this one.
You have 5 sports teams in Calgary that are worth $1B plus, and you never invested in a proper training and practice facility for those athletes.

How about just make the trade and don't make those signings? You're not building a contender with 10th-15th picks every year. And eventually you're going to run out of good assets to trade. The goal shpuld be to win the Cup, not turn into the Minnesota Wild.

Almost half of your season could be spent in that building… effectively being your office. Seems like a great place to do your “9 to 5 days”. Obviously money and team success will be the biggest factors in any signing but if two teams were a draw in those categories, having a facility like that could lean a player to go there. And it’s probably really helpful with team moral as well which can be reflected in team success.

This would certainly help us create the most mid team possible. And would change a top 5 pick to a mid round pick.
That would be just awful, but I'm sure Murray Edwards is salivating at this plan.
And I mean more for the signing of free agents. I think we should trade Markstrom.

I wonder if McDavid is looking for the short term deal in Edmonton or the long term deal.

Jason Bukula with an interesting one this morning.
To Montreal: 9OA + 28OA
To Calgary: 5OA + 57OA
Flames take Tij.
Personally, I struggle a bit with this one. If the Flames have depth anywhere, it’s on the wing, specifically LW or left shot wingers. I know Tij is projected to play C next year but it also seems like the Flames have a number of wingers they’re wanting to move to C already: Sharangovich, Zary, Posposil, Honzek. I would sit at 9 and see who lands on your plate. Still should have a good choice in front of the Flames.
I think it would be best for the Flames to prioritize C or D. I also know there’s questions to whether Lindstrom or Catton’s games will translate to C at the NHL level. I’ve heard a few prospect based reporters saying they think bit are wingers at the NHL.
Anyway, good food for thought.

Drop 29 spots from 28th overall to move up 4 spots to 5th overall and take a player that might still be there at 9th overall, and it's debatable that we should even take that player at 9th overall with some of the other options that might also be there.
