Could see Lucic plus a high pick for Hall, Bruins in rebuild after this season.

Isn't most of the Smoke of this Lucic stuff coming from the Bruiins side of this anyways?

Yup. Murphy was the first and then RA was the other. I don’t believe anyone from Alberta has really been reporting this

Assuming they extend Pastrnak they're still a really good team and their only hole is down the middle whenever Bergeron actually retires. Coyle is adequate at 2C, though preferable at 3C.
They'll have quite a bit of cap flexibility next year...if any of Miller/ROR/Horvat/Larkin hit UFA BOS will be a big player.
I could also see them signing Toews next year.

It will be tough for the Flames to lose two heavies like Gudbrandson(where a case could be made that he is a top 5 fighter) and Lucic(either him or Macdermid could have been crowned the Heavyweight champ last year).
Without either of them, the Flames are pretty soft in that regard. Kevin Rooney is not the answer, as he has lost to the likes of Chris Kreider and Cedric Paquette.
I personally like to have one or two guys on the Flames who can chuck them and throw them effectively, which is why it was nice to have Guddy and Looch. Based on what John Stevans said, Sutter likes that as well.

Meh, I don't think it's a necessity to always have a bunch of good fighters. Functional toughness? Absolutely. You want to have guys who can win board battles and separate guys from pucks.
But multiple guys who can win fights? I just don't think that's necessary in today's game unless they're guys who can do other things. Lucic is on the verge of falling into the category of guys who can only fight, and I don't think those guys have much value anymore. If Lucic can be his 2019–2021 self again, then he can be this team's designated tough guy who can also play.
Is there really any correlation between the most successful teams and the teams that have the most fights? I don't think there is. MacDermid plays for the Avs, sure ... but he wasn't a factor in the playoffs at all.

Zadorov still around, and the upgrade from Gaudreau to Huberdeau in size is good enough for toughness. Tkachuk not lighting a fire under a lot of teams will help too.

If Zadorov is the only peacekeeper, we're in trouble. He's not the greatest fighter in the world-he can throw around smaller guys like Ryan Hartman, but he can't do much against bigger guys but hold on. I agree with Scorp-there's no place in the league for players that can only fight, but as long as hitting and physicality are legal in the game, you will need some guys who can play a regular shift AND throw down. Otherwise, teams will walk all over you, and that is FACT.

That is exactly how I view it. It’s great to have some that can throw down and take a regular shift. Guddy was able to do that and to a lesser extent, Lucic used to be able to do that. Can he do it again, that remains to be seen. Sure, the game has changed now, in that enforcers and goons are not relevant anymore, but when you have top tier guys who can fight, it’s never a bad thing.

Lucic had 7 fights in 82 games...I think we will survive without him

Looch is such a detriment to this team with his inability to skate and do other things that the Flames *checks notes* finished first in the Pacific. Makes sense.

With *checks notes* two 100-point scorers on team-friendly deals. Down to one now.
If Lucic's cap hit is getting in the way of improving the forwards, you have to move him.

Lol.. All time he's nowhere near top 10.. In the last 6 or 7 years sure..
He's not even close to top of 10 all time. The 80s and 90s had some serious heavyweights...There are flames teams where he wouldn't have been the best fighter.

Zadorov is big and strong enough to bear hug an opponent into immobility. He’s not much of a fighter, as you say.

Also, Mackey isn't afraid to fight. Stone, if he comes back, is a load to deal with although maybe not a fighter.

I wouldn’t call Maroon a goon. He’s just large, and has pretty good possession numbers.
Dude’s PDO in the last few years is also 105, 103.8, 102…which, I barely understand PDO but that seems a bit odd.
