Such a fantastic result and really, something to be very proud of as Canadian Tennis fans. Pretty incredible to have a Davis Cup and ATP cup in the back pocket over the last couple of years.
Somewhat unfortunate that this has been lost a little in the shuffle with the world cup right now, but hopefully Canada is now seriously viewed as a serious tennis power in all corners of the tennis world.

To give some context on how hard it is to win Davis Cup, Djokovic and Federer each only won it once.

I was not aware that the German doubles team of Kraweitz/Puetz were undefeated in Davis Cup doubles play (8-0) prior to playing Vasek and Shapo. That comeback win in doubles was incredible and to be honest, Italy advancing over the States I thought was a break for Canada as both Tiafoe and Fritz were in fine form. Then you see how Sonego was playing as he defeated both Tiafoe and Shapo in back-to-back matches and things coming down to the doubles once again. Bolelli getting injured was a break as Berrettini was certainly not in the best form for that deciding doubles match.
The final was a bit anti-climatic as Shapo and Felix closed it out in singles. I've read that the Aussies tried to get Kyrgios to play, but he didn't seem to be all that interested.

Speaking of Alexis Galarneau, pretty nice reply to Milos' tweet...

I guess it will go into the record books as Canada being the last winners of the ATP Cup as the United Cup is replacing the ATP Cup in January 2023. I'm not sure what happened, but both Canada and Serbia are not partaking in this inaugural edition of the United Cup which is a shame as it is a combined ATP/WTA event and Canada would have fielded a very strong team.

I think Felix and Shapo declined to participate so Canada didn't have a high enough combined ranking to make it.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like to me as well. In my opinion, it was thrown together at the 11th hour and the qualification rules were complex and for the lower ranked players, it's tough to commit to this event and sacrifice other tournaments.
At any rate, the 18 teams competing are below:

Felix was a busy guy in 2022. Enjoy some much deserved time off FAA.

Fernando Verdasco accepts a two month ban as he tested positive for medication he takes for ADHD. He does have a TUE (therapeutic use exemption), but he forgot to renew it.

why is Verdasco still slugging it out on the Challenger Tour for a couple thousand dollars, and yelling at umpires? He's got everything!
