I know about CalgaryPolitics, I thought I'd seen some reference to Zhao on the CD site in the history pages, but I must have been mistaken.

Would it be possible to get another poll? I've love to see if any of the selections have changed. It would be great to another poll close to the election date as well.

Its more than just for transit though. He's talking about a card where you could pay for all city owned services including transit, fitness facilities, etc. This would allow for the money to be allocated based on use (at least as I interpret this, but don't flame him if I'm misunderstanding it!). It makes a lot of sense. I'm sure that this technology has been around, but no one else seems to be talking about this kind of thing.

Right. I guess that is a sticking point for some people. Frankly the "he should quit his job" thing is just dumb. I have never seen anyone else quit their job before putting out resumes. McIver, Hawkeswoth and Connelly are all being paid as alderman and campaigning. At least Kent is donating this salary to charity while he continues to do that job and run for the mayors seat.
(Assuming this was going to be where you were headed here 4x4, so I thought that I would comment in advance!)

PM? I doubt that.
When you and I are elected and we do something a CP'er hates; we are getting a very public thread, no quiet PMs'.

New thread started and poll requested.
Should this thread be locked? Move discussion on to the next poll thread?

The first contactless smart card used by a public transport agency, the Octopus card in Hong Kong, is also used to pay for other services and even as security cards for other institutions. These capabilities were well known when he was an Alderman. While his idea is good, he is simply tagging a small contribution onto something that has already been started by others and something that he, wrongly, neglected when he was in their position.

Actually Craig Burrows cites that exact example, so he does give credit where create is due and isn't tryin to usurp the idea.
Anyway, I'm not voting for him, so I don't know why I insist on defending him here. I guess I don't care if the idea is his own or he found it on a trip, I would like it regardless.

I didn't mean to infer that he was stealing the idea from other cities but he is jumping onto a local bandwagon that only got moving after he left office. The idea was around back when he was an Alderman and should have been a priority but it was only made so after he left. Basically, the idea was around back then so why didn't he jump on it then?
