I'm sure they work fine overall, I just worry about edge cases and data integrity.

I was reading that its optimal to put the HDD in the main bay and SSD in Optibay, unless you have a SATA 3 capable MBP

Has anyone here had a Macbook Pro battery replaced at an Apple store? Do you have to drop off the machine, or do they do it on the spot? The Genius appointments are in 15 minute increments, so it seems tight but doable to have it done without having to leave it there.

The one time I went with a friend or was done on the spot but it was during the day and wasn't as busy as usual

I smashed the screen on my telus iphone3gs. Got another 6 months left on contract and talked to Telus they wont budge without me paying out contract. So a Friend gave me his old Rogers 3GS. I understand I need to unlock it but it appears I need to Jailbreak it first. I'm new to doing this and it looks like there are all types of different users out there that do it. Can anyone Recommend a software where I can download to jailbreak than unlock this Rogers to use on Telus?

Take your smashed one into the apple store and play dumb. Just ask what they can do to fix it, etc etc. I would say there's about a 60-70% chance they just swap it out for you.

I know that this sounds sketchy, but there's a guy that I found on Kijiji to fix my old 3G screen after my wife dropped it (I wanted to use it as an iPod after getting my new phone). It cost $50, he does it while you wait, and you just have to take it to his apartment downtown.
There was even a connection problem with my earpiece speaker after the screen was done, so I called him, brought it back, and he fixed it without any fuss or extra charge (as you would hope and expect). By all means, take it to the Apple Store and see what they say, but if you're stuck, it is an option.
You can even buy the parts online and do it yourself, but for the sake of $50, I couldn't be bothered.
Finally, if you do go the jailbreak/unlock route, I did my old 3G using Redsn0w and Ultrasn0w. There is a big thread about jailbreaking that I used as a starting point: http://forum.calgarypuck.com/showthread.php?t=91212

I had a problem with my iMac and took it into the Apple store in Market Mall. I guess there was a problem with the OS so they reloaded it. I restored from my back up and everything seems to be working except home sharing.
iTunes shows that home sharing is on, but it does not show up on any of my iDevices, (iPad, iPod, iPhone etc...). I have turned home sharing on/off, re-entered id's and passwords, rebooted etc....
Any thoughts?

It's quite good. It's getting silly how far ahead OSX is over Windows in terms of usability.

I am confused, I don't use OSx, but haven't people in this thread suggested that Windows 7 pulled MS ahead a little bit? Or is it just Mountain Lion that did this?

That would have been a pretty odd thing to suggest. Windows 7 is far from being advanced in anything, really. I mean, in terms of Windows iterations, 7 is by far the best version (XP Pro SP3 being 2nd, and 2K being third), but outside of the Windows world, I think you'd be hard-pressed to find anyone who thinks Win7 is more advanced than current Linux builds or OS X.

I'd have argued that the out-of-box usability, even in Lion, was well beyond Windows 7. But my comment was about Mountain Lion.
Disclaimer: Windows 7 doesn't suck. I actually quite like it, and use it several times a week.

I can think of tons of ways Windows 7 is more advanced than OS X and Linux, all the way from the filesystem to user space. Mostly though, the three platforms have different philosophies on how they deliver the API's expected of a modern operating system, with different advantages to each.

Just got Mountain Lion up and running. I know it's basic, but being able to have my documents in the cloud accessible everywhere now is so huge to me. I do all of the family budgeting from my iPad, but there are tons of time I want to jump in real quick while I'm at my laptop. Seems to work pretty seamless so far.
Notification centre is another great addition. Being able to dictate a reminder into my phone and have it fire on my computer is such a nice feature. On the other side of the coin, being able to make a reminder that fires on my phone from the laptop is just as big. There are apps that claim to do it, but personally none of them were ever reliable enough.

Safari 6 on Mountain Lion is super fast. Fast enough to give up Chrome for a while, for me. That means I have to wait until the fall for iCloud tab syncing, but I can manage.

So what's the verdict on AirPlay Mirroring? I currently have a Boxee Box as my media streamer, and although it handles AirPlay for audio, it can't do the mirroring. I have been getting frustrated as a lot of web content is becoming unavailable due to Flash on the box being outdated with no indication of a resolution from Boxee, Adobe, etc. etc. Until providers move to HTML 5 and stop using Flash, the device is becoming a bit useless for web media. It still performs admirably while streaming local files, Netflix, etc. I bought the Boxee because it was more open and not dependent on a manufacturer's ecosystem, but ironically, AirPlay Mirroring seems to be a suitable solution for playing whatever I want.
My moaning aside, I do have a MacBook Air, and the thought of mirroring pretty much anything to my TV seems like a pretty easy solution. If I drop $109 on an Apple TV, will it actually handle anything I can throw at it via AirPlay Mirroring? Obviously, that is the claim from Apple, but does anyone here have any real-world experience with displaying web TV shows at full screen, local files, etc.? Any reason I shouldn't take the plunge?

I use my iPad streaming through the apple tv all the time. I use the boxee app, globaltv, citytv, CBC apps. For the tour de France, I used the NBC tour app with VPN and streamed it though to the tv.
I don't have cable, so this is how I watch my tv.

I have been able to send the odd video (with limited success) from my iPhone, but from the Mac it appears to have different/extra encryption. I can't find a link to where I read that, but I tested it out yesterday and the Boxee doesn't show up on my Mac for mirroring.
Edit: And it appears that there is a subtle difference between "AirPlay" which is what iPads and iPhones can do, and "AirPlay Mirroring", which is the new Mountain Lion feature. So the Boxee seems to be able to handle AirPlay, but not the mirroring. I think.
