It will be interesting to see where Community goes with Harmon leaving. Though the writing in the show has always been superb, the cast is what has makes me coming back every week. I'm sure the Dean will still be as whacky as ever, and Troy will be as awesome as ever.
Though Happy Endings is an ok show, a lot of the jokes are the exact same. I hope these new people know what they are doing.
I also hope this means Chevy Chase is coming back (I assume he is).

Unlikely, the position's open, but I doubt Harmon actually takes it.
We need a hashtag.

Makes it official, he wasn't wanted by either the network or studio and was fired. He'll get the Consulting Producer title along a salary and some of the profits from the show because he was the creator, but it's clear that he will have no role on Community.

That last episode was definitely designed to be a series finale. It will be interesting to see where the show goes next year.

It sucks but I don't feel that sorry for the guy, nor do I believe the show can't still be amazing. He alienated a ton of the best staff and writers Community has and made some top talent leave because of it. His incident with Chevy showed his true colors even more. Not many people have nice things to say about Dan Harmon, especially the ones who have worked with him.

I wouldn't be surprised if it came down to Harmon or Chase and they decided to keep Chase happy. A season without Pearce just wouldn't feel right.

The Memorial Park library was part of one of the episodes from Thursday.

^^How does that even happen? I presume just a stock photo used for the show?

Probably. One of the big stock photo companies is/was based in Calgary, so there are a lot of stock photos of various places around Calgary out there.

A look at other shows whose show-runners were replaced during the show's run: http://www.hitfix.com/blogs/whats-al...out-dan-harmon. Things don't often work out for the best.
I hope they can keep Megan Ganz around. She was the writer on some of the best episodes, including the bottle episode from season 2 and the Law & Order episode from this season.
I like Happy Endings, which the new show runners are involved with. They're credited as "Consulting Producers" (which is what Harmon's new role on Community is going to be), so I don't know what their involvement is on Happy Endings. They previously worked on the American adaptation of The IT Crowd, which never saw the light of day (but Joel McHale appeared in the pilot). It seems that they play nicely with others, unlike Harmon, but that doesn't necessarily mean it will be good for the show.

Community Cast sure disagrees with the decision via Twitter. If Season 4 is good, I'll be happy and f it's not, I'll just remember Community from S1-S3 as the finale was pretty much made to be a series finale.

Another analysis of the move: http://www2.macleans.ca/2012/05/19/t...nity-brouhaha/
Interesting suggestion that basically in an effort to give the show more mainstream appeal, Sony has likely gutted the show of everything that gave it any appeal.
Quote:
But Community belongs to a small category of shows where the fans aren’t just tuning in for the characters and stories (though obviously, they do like the characters and stories); they’re watching for the creator’s specific point of view. The wild unevenness and mood swings of the show, the huge shifts in tone and the feeling that everything is filtered through one very specific sensibility, is part of what has made it so passionately loved by its fans. Most comedies, including good ones, are a bit filtered through a lot of different sensibilities: there are so many writers and so much rewriting that the creator’s point of view is visible only in very broad strokes. But Community is one of those shows that cultivates the feeling of one man talking directly to his fans, using the resources of a major network budget.
|
Quote:
Sony and NBC have always acted like Community was this close to being a mainstream hit. I get the impression sometimes that they think it could have been a mainstream hit if it had been more normal and focused more on the way things really are at a community college or something.

You can’t blame a studio for wanting to make a show run more smoothly – the whole point of a show, especially a broadcast network show, is to have a system for producing lots of episodes on time and on budget. It just seems like they’re getting themselves in an awful lot of hot water, getting themselves an awful lot of bad publicity, to bring this system to a show that isn’t really set up to work that way. For some shows, it makes sense, maybe for most shows; Mad Men would never be as good without Matt Weiner, but if the studio had been unable to make a deal with him, it would have made sense (business sense, I mean, not artistic sense) to hire a new producer and carry on. But with a show that’s so completely on the bubble, kept alive by the passionate sense of connection its fans have to the specific, irreplaceable viewpoint of its creator? There aren’t many shows like that, and it seems like Sony is carrying on as if this were some other type of show.

I kind of feel the show jumped the shark on the documentary episode this season.
