I almost didn't go see it and was on the "meh maybe I'll rent it or buy it for blu-ray" bandwagon.

I'm glad I took this girl to go see it because:

MY GOD WHAT AN INCREDIBLE MOVIE!! Best I've ever seen by far. What a masterpiece. it deserves every award it gets.

Wow best director and best dramatic picture golden globes. There is only one more set of accolades this film can get to take it to the highest pinnacle motion pictures can get.

BOX OFFICE UPDATE

MY Predictions.

Avatar:

Will hit $500 million domestic in its 32nd day (Monday) in release.

Will become #2 domestic, passing TDK at $533 million in its 37th day in release.

Will become #1 worldwide, passing Titanic at $1.84 billion in its 41st day in release.

Will become #1 domestic, passing Titanic at $601 million in its 49th day in release.

Will become the first ever movie to pass $2.0 billion worldwide in its 50th day in release.

Will finish its run at the box office with $2.3 billion worldwide after being in theaters (in some form) for about 9 months.

^ I really want to see this movie but I get dizzy and sick watching a movie that long.

Only reason Star Trek never bothered me is because, well, I freaking love Star Trek.

Yes DJ, we get it. You hate this movie. Do you really have to repeat the same f'ing thing over and over and over again?

Saw the movie on Saturday on IMAX. It was great in that it really immersed the audience into the environment. Like others pointed out, the story itself was kind of predictable and wasn't too original, however, it was very enjoyable

It's true though. It isn't so much about hating the movie as a number of other movies were far better, number one being Hurt Locker.

Agreed. Count me as surprised it won.

I am on the other side, I would have bet it would win. This movie was outstanding in my opinion and I fully expected it to win this award.

Visually it was outstanding. It should win all the technical awards. But I just don't think Avatar story was strong enough.

Seriously? Pochaontis is a great story, it's a classic!

(for the record this post is dripping with sarcasm)

Saturday Night Live had Sigorney Weaver as their guest host. They did some really funny send ups to Avatar.

James Cameron pushing Lorne Micheals on his next movie LaserCats.

The massive fruit anal insertion skit was classically funny as well.

that plus the Ting Tings were the musical guests.

I haven't seen it yet but I doubt $1.5b means the movie sucks.

My thing is that the Hurt Locker had an amazing story. If Avatar doesn't have a similar amazing story than it didn't deserve to win.

Agreed.

Strong achievement in film making however it is hardly a "best picture" candidate.
