I just have a hard time believing the impartiality of the comments of a writer who has referred to :
-the Chinese as "Chinks",
-the Japanese as "Japs",
-Indians as "wogs",
-A man who has reminded the "Injuns" in his writings that they were beaten by the "white man"
-A man who has written about the "Yellow Peril" and the "g**ks",
-A man who refers to Muslims as "bedturbanned prophet-monkeys" who have a disproportionated share of the "rape market"
I have a hard time relying on this individual as a reliable authority on anything related to a man involved in a race controversy. I would imagine that Steyn is a much more likely candidate to have an "axe" to grind, but that is just my opinion.

Gee Eddy I now have a tough time taking you seriously. Way to take his comments out of context. You have never read the guy obviously. Don't forget he also said that Muslims were multiplying like insects in Europe too. That one landed him and McLean's Magazine in front of the BCHRC.
Maybe his comments hurt your feelings? You should join in on the CJC sock puppets that are trying to sue him and others and getting their butts kicked.
BTW* He quoted an Imam who said that.
I challenge you to actually pull up the full articles that put those comments in context. Steyn is certainly acerbic but no bigot.

Holy heck...
Well there is one person that isn't a Henry Gates fan, although he appears to have started out as one.... the chap that was part of the peer group that hired him at Harvard. Professor Martin Kilson taught at Harvard for 42 years, retiring in 1999. In 2000, he roasted Gates.
It is a rather lengthy read, but an interesting look into how one of his peers perceived him.

Wow is right. Portrays Gates as a snob towards Africans.
Quote:
The irreverence associated with snide comments about the historical authenticity of the Coptic Church's claim of possessing the Ark, and the related irreverence associated with Gates' posturing about climbing the gate to the hallowed site where the Ark is located. Henry Gates wouldn't dare behave with such flippant and infantile irreverence in a comparable visit to a traditional sanctuary of Judaism in Israel, of the Church of England, of the Holy See in Rome, or anywhere else in the West. He wouldn't dare, I assure you....This kind of behaviour by Henry Gates is reserved only for Black-world realities! And that Gates can quote to his readers a fawning comment on "Wonders of the African World" by the current governing class in Ethiopia as a serious rebuttal of the charge by Mazuri and others that his demeanor as interviewer was irreverent toward traditional sanctuaries of African civilization is another dimension of Gates' myopic self-importance. His chutzpah too

Though I will say the writer seems to have an axe to grind

I guess it is nice to know that there are people out there concerned about the well being of their neighbors and associated property without automatically assuming the worst at the same time.

Slow down a bit.
At the risk of belittling it ... it's worth noting on a quick google that the journal only came into existence in late 1999 (deadline for submissions to the first copy Nov 30 1999). This was probably the second or third issue of the journal.
Such is the state of communication in academia that instead of a phone call, coffee and a shared spliff it takes 500+ words in an embryo journal to portray a message to a colleague.
At least with the latter I suppose you can throw it under 'publications'.

Apparently that is today!

Good on all three of them to meet at the White House. I hope it's more just three people shooting the breeze than anything else.
Hopefully this is the ending to the story.

I have no doubt Gates will take this opportunity, in the White House with his close friend the President, to browbeat Crowley. No admission of fault whatsoever. They should have met for beers at Crowley's house. A change of home turf would have been good for the Harvard Grads.

I thought that, and I sincerely hope it doesn't happen. After I made my last comment though, I read a remark by Obama stating that this could be used as a "teachable" moment.

BTW - isn't Obama half white himself?

I still haven't figured what I'm supposed to learn, other than race pimps are scumbags, but I already knew that. Obama would seem to be the only one who should be learning a lesson.

Lucky I wasn't the cop, because after a couple of beers, I go into face punching mode.
