I pass by there a lot of days in the week.

The teddy bears are still tied to the light standard.

Again, I was sitting in the spot where they were mowed down roughly 20 minutes before the incident . . . . the fickle finger of fate is a spooky thing.

8 years is still not enough but i'm glad he got close to the maximum.

Ridiculous! What the judge gave him is leniency!

Provincial court Judge Bruce Fraser rejected a call for leniency, instead ordering Tschetter into a federal penitentiary.

So he gets 1 year per life that he took, basically. Not enough at all, IMO.

Edited to add: In the sidebar of stories on the Sun webpage, they have a headline about a Saudi man being sentenced to jail for 5 years as well. For talking about sex on TV. Wow.

He doesn't. Being a judge must be tough work. Trying to remember the details of many cases that overlap in various ways, having to write those long documents detailing why the perp was sentenced to what...

My personal opinion is that he should be made an example of. The bottle in the hopper drastically tips the scales.

I think the fact that you basically tell the govt what you want to get paid and will never see your pay decreased helps. Also no worry about getting laid off or recession fears.

Also, I love how he was called honorable judge - hahaha.

Not sure what many people expected, split the difference between what the defence wanted and what crown wanted. I guess instead of a gun, if you decide you want to kill someone run into them with your car (so long as they cannot prove intent) - what a law.

Unbelievable. This scum sucker should be away for 20+. The fact that he's going to get to see his family, children, grandchildren, without looking through glass while wearing a jumpsuit is bull.

I hope the prisoners of the Alberta correctional system take in on to themselves to make this guy feel like he's serving life.

Then he's banned from driving for 5 years also? Daniel Tschetter should not be allowed to drive any vehicle again in his life.

I can't understand why the court system is so leniant on drunk drivers.

You used to also say "My Lord". I remember a funny story I heard once where a female lawyer in the courtroom accidentally addressed the judge as "My Love"

You don't say "My Lord" to a Provincial Court Judge in Alberta. That is reserved for Queen's Bench Justices, Court of Appeal Justices and members of the Supreme Court of Canada.

edit: Just noticed the part where you say you USED to say "My Lord".

What a great sentence, oh once you serve your ridiculously short sentence which you'll get off early because of "good behaviour", we're not going to let you drive for oh like 5 years, we cool?
