Well with December on the horizon heres how I see things shaping up.
AFC East
Once again the Pats have this division won. Not as good as they had been, but this year they should feature some type of running game. Other teams in the AFC will feel better once they get knocked out.
AFC North
I think a Batimore win on Thursday gives them the AFC North. Cinci is playing better these days, but I think Batimore is going to be too physical for them and will be Division champs by Friday
AFC South
Colts are the team to beat. The offence is tremendous and their running game is rounding into form too. I belive the Colts can also clinch the AFC South with a win this week as Jacksonville would be sitting at 5 losses and have 3 of those within the Division. Manning has done everything but get to the Superbowl and this might just be his year.
AFC West
Well I though Denver would win this Division but I was dead wrong. Looks like San Deigo can't lose it, even with a porus and beat up defence their offence is making up for it. LT is right there with Peyton for the best player in the game and Phillip Rivers isn't making them miss Brees too much.
AFC Wildcard
Denver and Kansas City curently have the wild card spots, and I think they'll both be able to hold on. My Chiefs are probably the most vulnerable team of the bunch but their O-line is pretty healthy and starting to get in sync, and they've won 20 straight at Arrowhead in December. They've had a few extra days of rest here to prepare for Cleveland, and I hope they can go into Oakland and win there too. Baltimore and Jacksonville will be tough games at home though, as will SD on the road. But I'm hopefull they can go 3-2 to make 10-6 the benchmark. Jacksonville has @ Miami, Indianapolis, Tennessee, New England and @ KC left on thier schedule. They'll be luckey to finish 3-2 from here on out and 9-7 won't get it done for them. The Jets are also 6-5 but have a pretty easy schedule left. Their toughest game by the looks of it is @ Miami on a Monday night. So the Jets might be able to get to 10-6 and if they do that than they'd hold a tie breaker over KC due to a better conference record. But I have to think that a team like the Jets with no running game won't go 4-1 in December and that one of Green Bay, Minnesota, Oakland or Buffalo will upset them. Cinci is also 6-5 but they have Baltimore, @ Indy, @ Denver, Pittsburgh along with Oakland. It will tough for them to finish up 4-1.
But if KC and Denver don't play well and 9-7 becomes the record.....Than a lot more teams come into play and Miami and Buffalo also can't be considered out of it yet.
In the NFC I see Dallas, Chicago, New Orleans, and Seattle winning those divisions. A SF win over StL today and I would have thought the Niners could pull off the surprise win, but now I think it'll be too tough for them.
For NFC Wild card teams I think Carolina will get one of the spots for sure, and I don't know about the other one. Giants would seem the favorite but I think that Tiki Barber retirement and the injuries have them too distracted. Maybe SF can sneak up and grab the WC spot.

For the AFC playoff picture,
There are two teams that look good at this time that are currently out and they are the Bengals and the Dolphins (Some may question Dolphins). But the Dolphins D is rated 2nd overall in total yardsd allowed per game, just behind the bears.
At 6-5 the Bengals, are starting to play the same way they started out,
Miami is the hottest team in the AFC that't not a division leader with 4 in a row.
Only two other teams in the AFC are currently hotter Baltimore and San Diego with 5 in a row.
Can't wait for next Sunday
Miami hosts Jacksonville and with a win there that puts us right at 6-6. With the tiebreak over Jacks, we also hold the tiebreak from KC, who knows Miami may run the table.
Jacks, NE, Jets all at home, I think we can win all those games. Jason Taylor always seems to have Brady's number.
Bills and Indy on the road. The indy game doesn't scare me if Indy has home field throughout clinched. I don't see peyton playing more than the 1st quarter as it will be week 17
The bills game is the scariest going up to Buffalo in December is never easy for the fish.
Either way, looks like Miami has to run the table to get in as once again for the 3rd year in a row the AFC domination looks like it won't allow a 9-7 team to get in.
Than again I'm a Dolphin fan so yah I'm being a bit of a homer.

I kind of feel bad for the Giant who let Young go.
He thought the pass was thrown. If he's right and turfs Young, it is Roughing the Passer and he is the goat.
Buress is the biggest goat - if he doesn't give up on the route then maybe he can prevent the pick and the whole comeback never happens (although why are they throwing deep balls with a 21 point lead in the 4th Quarter?)

Is Roughing the Passer an automatic first down or just a 10 yard penalty? Wasn't it 4th and 12 or something like that? Might have been worth the risk.

My Thoughts From Sunday
-Joseph Addai is going to put up some sick numbers over his carerr. What a game last night.
-Rex Grossman has yet to prove he can make plays when the team is down and they need to comeback
-Jamal Lewis may be back as a RB in this league
-Vick is a joke

Addai sure did look good.
Grossman was hailed as a god at the start of the season. I think he bought into his own hype. He needs to simplify, let the run game set up the pass.
Jamal Lewis has a $5 Million roster bonus coming up this spring. If he is released he beccomes a free agent, so he is playing for a payday.
While I'm not a huge Vick fan, but he has the skills. Did you see the dropped passes yesterday? Ridiculous. If someone could catch the ball he would be a lot better. And if they hadn't traded Duckett their power game to back up Dunn (who hasn't done anything this season) could carry some of the load. Cick has to take some of the blame, but by no means are the rest of the team blameless. When happened to the vaunted Falcons D this year?

It would seem likely that Oakland would want Jake given their penchant for granting second and third chances, but I think Brooks is signed there for at least next year. I suspect someone else will give Plummer a chance to start somewhere in the NFL. Either way I think he'd rather backup somewhere else thats not Denver next year if he has his way.

He's twice the QB Brooks is but that's nether here nor there....I agree though, with Sylvanfan that Jake will be a starter next year somewhere.
Many have probably wondered why I have continued to support Jake Plummer. Here's a good indication of why, this is Plummer talking to the press after the KC game.

I love the move by the way...Cutler is simply more gifted than Plummer physically. If he has Jake's motor he'll be exceptional.

Actually the QB carousel could get interesting next year. Holcomb, Bledsoe, Collins, Plummer, Huard, Garcia, and Warner could all be on the market. Out of all those I think Bledsoe and Plummer are the only two who land starting jobs.

My guess is that none of them will start ... in week one anyway.
I love Jake, my favorite college ball was watching him play at ASU I still remember incredible comebacks against USC (about 24 pts I believe) and UCLA with him CATCHING the game winning pass with no time left ... it was ABC's play of the year if I recall right. He's a great person and a great athlete, but he still forces balls and can't pass from the pocket on a regular basis. I think the move is best, but there's too many folks who will want to look at younger backups that regurgitate Bledsoe and Plummer.

And Oakland finally fires their Offensive Coordinator
Quote:
Walsh is a close friend of coach Art Shell, having served as his offensive coordinator during Shell's first stint as Raiders coach. But he had been out of the NFL since being fired with Shell after the 1994 season and was the recipient of much of the blame for the NFL's worst offense.

I think Shanahan is great. Starting a rookie QB when you are in a race for a playoff spot. As a Chief fan I coudn't be happier. Thanks Mike.
