That's the sad part. If he sought out to fight and then punched a rando that's one thing. However, if the story holds that another guy was chirping his family, got kicked out of the bar then waited outside and chirped him again before getting dropped, then it's sad we are in a world where the tax payer has to waste their money on this stupidity...

It was a long time ago but I remember seeing something along the lines of some U. S. Police levy a blanket of charges and then those either hold up or go away as more information is gathered throughout the investigation.
Hence why we can see a murder 1 charge go down to manslaughter etc. but they have to initially make those charges from the onset.
Seems wonky to me but I definitely have a recollection of that being a procedure in some states.
Maybe an American law expert can weigh in.
Either way, I doubt McKenna gets a criminal record from this.

I agree. If someone says something I don’t like I should be able to assault them with no consequences irrespective of whether there was a threat of harm to me or my family. You run your mouth, you’re getting knocked the #### out. And if you get hurt, that’s on you for being an ass.

Are they upset that he didn't hit the guy enough? Maybe they want players who are more business savvy? Punching a cab driver to dispute a fare is more up their alley?

Maybe they're worried he'll punch them if a staff member tries to assault him.

It appears that a number of teams don't see McKenna as "the one" and would rather take one of the other choices. It might be an interesting draft.

If this was the law, the consequences would be unimaginable.

There would probably be less guys calling your mom a whore when she’s sitting next to you.

Absolutely.
But an increase in fights because someone told you they don't like the colour of your pants.

Man… people who need to be physically violent because someone said some mean words are the biggest embarrassments out there. So damn soft. Just move on. They are words. Don’t be a complete baby.

Meh, when you mix in alcohol and other party favors, even the best of us succumb to our baser instincts. And I might add verbal abuse is equal to physical abuse. While one (physical) is very observable the other can be compounded invisibly and stack up and make anyone break.
Don't discredit the power of words and their ability to harm and make people lash out physically. It's not a weakness if you're up against someone who's good at provocation. They can get anybody.
Now factor in that this situation in particular is an 18 year boy. Not a man, a boy. Calling them an embarrassment is pretty harsh.

It’s more directed at the adults who think this is a normal and healthy way to respond. I don’t really think he should be facing any career punishments due to an altercation like this. Kids make mistakes, often they are quite dumb mistakes. We’ve all seen it.
But grown ups who think this is actually an appropriate way to handle the situation? ####ing embarrassing.

‘Power of words’ does not excuse inappropriate response.
Society has deemed punching someone in the face because of what they said inappropriate, by making it a chargeable offence.
Regardless if we are mature adults or dumba$$ teenagers, we are all responsible for our reactions.
Mixing in booze or other favours is irrelevant.
