Or sign Bonino, Petan, etc and waive them.

The Hurricanes released C Rocco Grimaldi from his PTO yesterday. If anything, he's a good "hired gun" producer at the AHL level.

I’m kind of confused at this no centre depth thing. Yes it is weaker than average, but if there’s an injury to a top 9 centre I think Zary slots in there. Coleman played centre at times before Calgary I believe. Sharangovich when he’s back can play centre. In the AHL, you got Morton (who many wanted as the teams 4th line centre), Bishop and Kirkland (who have both been nhl call ups in recent history). While I’m not saying any of these are great options, they are options and we aren’t expected or supposed to be good this year.
I also think there’s a high chance we claim Schwindt back when Vegas gets healthy, as we can claim him and send him to the AHL without waivers

What % of a chance would you guess there to be for Schwindt actually returning?
Well that’s way more than 1 question but I would appreciate any attempt to respond.

I must be very outdated. I thought that after clearing waivers there was a 30 day window in which the player was waiver-exempt, until they were exposed to waivers for any movement (up or down) again.
Or am I making this entire process up? My apologies, it's also pre-season as a fan.

Another example of a better offensive player that would put up better number one center numbers for the Wranglers.

Here's how I see their forward group shaking out to start:
Pelletier-Morton-Frk
Stromgren-Kirkland-Duehr
Hunt-Bishop-Kerins
Ciona-Lipinski-Gallant
Bell rotating in

Not sure how they rank, however its an organization area of need in my opinion
Next draft, I would guess the 1st selection made by the Flames is a center.

You are correct on the 30 days of not needing waivers again.
However, recall waivers havent been a thing in 20 years. (04-05 lockout)

30 days or NHL games. But you can send them up and down between games to make it last longer.

Having 9 of those picks be top 100 picks in the their draft over the last 2 years, is only going to help that prospect base.

I'm happy for Schwindt. He gets to stay on an NHL roster and make 8x as much money as he would in the minors.
If let's say 3 weeks from now Vegas were to waive him, do the flames put in a claim and keep him on the NHL roster? Or maybe the flames put in a claim hoping they are the only team which would allow them to send him down to the AHL.
As for Pelts, I'm glad he's been assigned to the wranglers. He needs playing time and by all acccounts has a great attitude. Even saying he hopes he doesn't get claimed so he can stay with the team.
I was never worried about Cooley. That 2nd year of his contract scared away any claims. Hopefully he lights it up in the AHL and turns into the next Kipper for us by the new year.

Do the Flames get first right to a player they lost on waivers, if he’s waived again?

No. Waiver priority remains the same. But if they are the only team to make a claim, they can then move him to the AHL without waiving again.

He passed through 17 teams before getting to Vegas, wouldnt be surprised if they were the only team to put in a claim.

It's shocking enough one team put in a claim, let alone if another team did.

I think you're slightly wrong on that. Used to be if a guy had a one way deal cleared and was recalled you could claim for half price. That didn't go away until the 2013 lockout. Seam Avery was signed by Dallas, waived, than recalled. I think the PA wanted that gone because a player like Wade Redden got stuck in the AHL and was never coming back up because of the recall risk.
It doesn't exist anymore, but it's 10 years type of thing. The waiver draft got axed after the 04/05 lockout.

Let's go kid, I want to see you succeed with the Flames.

We did win the Tkachuk trade. Florida’s changes kept the Oilers from winning a Stanley Cup.

- Once a player has cleared waivers, he can be on an NHL roster for 30 days or 10 NHL games played before requiring waivers again.
- Any time spent in the AHL doesn't count against those 30 days.
- The 30 days can be spread across multiple recalls.
- He doesn't need to clear waivers to be recalled.
