I’m so devastated for his family and young kids. Unimaginable grief. My mind also goes to Sean Monahan, his best friend and teammate again. Just so sad.

Awful Awful news.
Even with the way that Johnny left the Flames, I still had a soft spot in my heart for him. A tiny underdog, that became an impact player in the NHL is a story you don't hear that often.
The ultimate in a feel good narrative, seeing him on the ice and his family in the stands, tells you everything you need to know about Johnny and his family, and I hope that they can take some solace in the fact that there are probably a lot of little players out there wearing the number 13 and fighting for their dreams.
RIP Johnny.

What a tragedy for the Gaudreau family. My thoughts also went to Sean Monahan who was looking forward to a reunion in Columbus. Unbelievably sad and needless tragedy.
There is more info about the accident (crime) itself in this link:

I hope to see a lot of Gaudreau jerseys out there this weekend. I'll be wearing mine.

Absolutely gutted for Meredith and the kids and the entire Gaudreau family, for all their closest friends and loved ones who will be battling through an unimaginable situation.
I have two boys and just the thought of losing them...
Yeah. Absolutely sucks. Heart feels like it's been ripped out this morning.

I logged onto CP this morning to check rumors, Flames lines, absurd trade proposals.
Then got smacked in the face with this piece of news.
I loved watching Gaudreau, an absolute fan favorite.
So sorry to his entire family, especially given the circumstances of the wedding.

My wife woke me up to tell me the news this morning.
This is so horrible; hard to find words today.
Drunk driving is absolutely deplorable.
RIP Johnny & Matthew.

Went to bed thinking this was a bad rumour.
Woke up to a 615 drive in gutted by the news.
He'll always represent a chapter of winning in Flames history. The age of my kids had him as their "electric" player, and one of my first date's with my second wife was at development camp watching Gaudreau pop.
So sad for his family.

Just such a legend in our city and played such a huge part in our lives. I was always the small kid growing up, playing hockey. To see someone even smaller than me break onto my favourite team and not only exceed expectations, but truly dazzle...I became a fan for life.
My entire first year of university I would drive 15 minutes to my friends place for every single game to watch this kid that should've never made it become a legend. Unforgettable memories.
Thank you so much Johnny. I'll never forget.

I think it's appropriate to say don't drive like a lunatic a#$hole in general as well. I've seen a lot of near misses in and around Calgary that sound just like this, and putting the actions solely on drunk driving is almost too much of a pass.
Condolences to the entire family. This one really hits hard.

I can't even begin to process this right now. Went to bed last night reading the rumors and had such a sickening feeling trying to fall asleep. Even had a nightmare about it. Woke up and immediately checked my phone and saw the news was true. WTF. I can't even believe this is reality right now. I can't even reminisce about his hockey history right now. All I can think about is his poor family .
His parents were part of our community, our hockey family and you'd be hard pressed to find any Calgarian who didn't recognize them on TV. To know that today was supposed to be Johnny and Matty's sister wedding day, the best day of her life, is now immediately the worst day of her life. All the guests who had travelled to be with them to celebrate, now living the worst reality a family can have. A young couple with 2 young kids who will now grow up without their father .
This is all too much to comprehend. I don't know much of Matty's personal life, if he was married or has children. I can't even say that I hope the family find peace with this because it's about to get a whole lot worse before it gets better over the next while and peace, whatever that is, seems impossible for the foreseeable future. The parents having to bury not one, but 2 of their kids...this is the stuff of nightmares. All because by all accounts some drunk jackass couldn't not only take a cab home, but decided to pass someone in the right shoulder lane?? WTF. Probably not the first time he's done a combination of something so incredibly stupid except this time it ends in tragedy.
This is all just too much. Hug your loved ones and never stop telling them you love them. An ideal life, taken away in the blink of an eye. My god this is tragic.
