If you told me that of all the Flames pending UFAs to be traded Tanev would have the best impact in the POs.... I'd have said "that makes sense".
Seriously, Tanev is the kind of guy you want to add to an already successful team. Not a guy you have to wedge into your top 6 that presumably is good. Not a Dman who is useless when not producing points. Just a guy who can fill a shutdown role, throw out in all situations (he is an underrated puck mover) and a great character guy.

Last 2 conditions that we have are:
getting a 2026 3rd if Dallas makes the finals
4th (107) upgraded to 3rd (94) in 2024 if Vancouver makes the conference finals.
With all the division winners making it to the next round, it is probably more likely that if the Canucks lose to the Oilers the pick will be 27 or 28. 29 if they beat the Oilers.

All Tre has said over and over again in Toronto was that he wasn't giving up his 1sts and top prospects for rentals and short term solutions. I don't really see a problem with that.
Again, if all Tanev gets you is to Game 6 of the second round, I'd probably just keep the 1st. There are more problems in TO than just getting Tanev. I'd start by breaking up the top 4 forwards on mega contracts and spreading out the depth, something they can address this summer.

with that attitude why ever try to win because you probably won't with 31 teams. Their chances will be no better next season, they will have a Boston or Florida waiting for them in the first 2 rounds.

This is just so typical how this shook out for the Flames
No matter who won this series one of our draft pick upgrades was going to get canceled, and now with Dallas winning there is still a chance the other one doesn't happen either.
Meanwhile over on the other side Edmonton's easy path to the Conference finals is already paved IMO
All because Vegas lost to......Anaheim on the last game of the season?
