It would be funny if Noah wants to stay and is using this tactic to negotiate while Elias tries the opposite approach.
Players saying they want out, a year before their contracts are up, is the BEST thing that could happen to the Flames, yes even better than signing on team friendly deals.
It forces a rebuild regardless of what management calls it. Even with everyone back this team is not a contender. This forces the issue.
Without legit stars, it frees Conroy up to move anyone as he sees fit. This team needs stars and the only way to get them is through drafting. Eventually Murray will understand that.
New stadium, star players, sell the Flames for an epic profit and buy an EPL team.

Limited sample size, obviously, but Dennis Gilbert can defend.

Thanks for this, I'm a Gilbert fan.

Will be super interesting if none of these 7 pending UFA's are extended by the draft. I think Connie is serious about not repeating the Johnny fiasco. There shouldn't be any way we lose valuable assets for nothing.
Hanifin would likely get a nice return, especially with the apparent lack of quality D men available throughout the league.

NGL, I want a draft day like when we traded for Tanguay. What waves and elation from what i remember

Could Hanifin get the same type of return as Hamilton? 2 young players. If so, I would try and do that with both Lindholm and Hanifin --> convert them into 4 pieces with potential to be a part of the core.

The Hamilton trade tree must live on in epic glory.

Baffling that he played as little as he did down the stretch.
More hits in 23 games than Tanev, Stone, and Andersson.
Despite having almost no offensive game to speak of, his +/- at the end of the year was Even. People #### on +/-, but for one-dimensional defensive D, it’s very helpful.

The entire final season of Sutters time was baffling. Not a single usage of personnel made a lick of sense.

With everyone talking about the big defence of Vegas, you have to think Gilbert gets a shot in the starting lineup.

Hhhmmm, yes. I do believe Hanifin is also the Flames's biggest defenseman behind Zadorov, so there will be a significant need for some compensation of size after he is moved.

Hanifin doesn’t play big.
Stone is bigger, and in many ways just as effective, if not marginally Moreso.
He’s a band-aid though.
In any event - we don’t need a championship blue line next year.

I wonder what Huska can do with Poirer he seems like someone who has a wild card type upside.

Hanifin plays tougher and better D than Stone. Stone can't clear the net, can't pass out of the zone and loses a ton of board battles. For all his size, he doesn't hit much, or well. Hanifin isn't rough but he uses his wingspan well and funnels to the boards. He has big looking errors but more often than not it's because he plays against elite forwards.

Poirier managed to get complimented twice during this year's camp by the one-and-only Darryl Sutter. Astounding. He's closer than we think.

For Poirier I think it probably depends on how you want him to develop at this point.
Do you:
A) Keep him in the AHL on the top pair and play him against top competition to try to improve his overall play defensively?
or
B) Bring him up to the NHL and play him in a more sheltered 3rd pairing role with offensive minutes and PP time potentially...and try to work on his defensive game at the NHL level.
I don't know what the answer is but feel like those are the two options.
