Chucky is ELITE. Top player in the league and has runway to get even better.
It’s just so hard to be a Flames fan right now.
I need a support group with booze and hot women.
No point in crying over spilt milk. He didn't want to be a Flame at the end of the day and nothing was going to change that. I have to admit he's exceeded my expectations in Florida. He's been a factor in the playoffs for the Panthers when he rarely was for the Flames which is hard to figure out unless there's something about putting on a Flames jersey that makes players play worse in the playoffs (I'm beginning to wonder). Maybe Maurice is just let him free of shackles or he's just happier playing in Florida.
Bennett was mishandled but it happens with younger players where teams just don't put the player in the right place to succeed. Flames just didn't have the patience to play him with top forwards and his confidence took a hit. I think things could have been different if Gulutzan wasn't hired but he was and it is what it is.

Maybe not having Sutter as coach would have changed that
Pretty decent source indicated Sutter was a significant factor in the decisions by Johnny and Tkachuk to move on
The trade doesn't infuriate me nearly as much as watching Tkachuk actually, you know, do something in the playoffs. Where was this in Calgary?
I think the issue in Calgary was two things a) He was growing his whole time here, so earlier playoff appearances won't be like more recent ones, yet it seems the fans used every series he played in since a rookie against his "playoff ability",
and b) He twice played with injuries during playoffs here, including a wrist injury last season. You simply can't play anywhere near your fullest if you don't have full wrist power.

I am always surprised how many people slag on Tkachuk for his past playoff performances. For a player his age, he was at the very least, pretty good. When he did disappear, he was either playing with a broken hand or half of the team also disappeared. But still, considering his age and the way he plays, there was no reason to think he wouldn't blossom into a playoff performer.

If this has already been posted sorry about the repost. Best part is when Tkachuk is down on the ice and getting up and the goalcam is filming him. He actually looks insane.
I know I've posted this before at some point (in some other thread), but Tkachuk put up 40 points (20G, 20A) in 18 playoff games in his final year before graduating to the NHL. 40 points in 18 games! Two goals in the final game of the Memorial Cup, including the OT cup-winning goal.
Spoiler!
To suggest he's not a playoff performer is just silly. I've also posted before about how power forwards start their prime years later than other forwards, as it takes longer to grow into their body (which is a huge part of their game). I know it sucks that he didn't want to re-sign here, but the guy is just gonna get better and better. He's 25 right now and already this good... 28 year-old Tkachuk is gonna be friggin scary.
Tkachuk continues to impress. Interested to see if he will be the 3rd finalist for the Hart when the voting gets released. Pretty sure McDavid and Pastrnak will be the top 2. 3rd it could be a few guys but I think when they voted at the end of the regular season, that it will be Tkachuk. He's quickly turning into a superstar and is definitely one of the top 10 forwards in the league and one the cusp of top 5.

He was a superstar before he got to Florida.
Your intentions with this comment are blatantly obvious but I can't tell if you're trying too hard or not hard enough.
