I wonder if there's a chance it's a 3 way deal with Tampa involved to get under the cap? Tampa gets the cheap youth.

Flames are supposed to have him for 7 years -- he says nah brah, you get me for 6, with some trading power. People here are congratulating him for how honest he is, when really he is screwing the team hard.
Gaudreau gave up two years of UFA status and signed a very team friendly deal. People continue to #### on him.

I think that came down to Tre signing Neal. I vaguely remember Tkachuk was willing to sign longer for more but the Flames couldn't fit it. Tre should be blamed for this one.

Nope.
From the article,
Quote:
Tkachuk has not officially asked for a trade, but the fact that the restricted free agent is unwilling to make a long-term commitment to Calgary would be the driving force behind the decision to move him now.

Johnny gave up 1 year of UFA.
Calgary couldn't afford to sign Tkachuk for more than a bridge deal.
It's not screwing the team by choosing where he wants to play once he hits UFA. It's really the only time players get to choose.
He's not demanding a trade, he's willing to go to arbitration and get a one year deal. It's simply in Calgary's best interest to trade him so he doesn't walk for nothing.

Ya hes 100% willing to play for 7 years, he is just given the Flames to get more value out of him by trading him at 6.
Love the posters twisting that into a negative though

If we are tearing it down, we need to seriously consider trading Lindholm. He is easily the most valuable asset that we have, and nets multiple 1st round picks plus prospects in a trade.
3 x 2023 first round picks or bust.

Outside of the optics, there is no difference between him saying he won’t sign an extension and him asking for a trade, and he knows it.
EDIT: Seriously, it’s on the same level as Denis Lemieux saying, “Trade me right ####ing now.”

Honestly I hope this changes the flames drafting strategy and we don’t waste another pick on an American player again.

Whenever this is done, I look forward to the soft balls at Trelivings presser. I suspect the Calgary sports media will make the Edmonton sports media look like Woodward and Bernstein.

Since the Flames are being forced to trade Tkachuk, I agree with trading Lindholm. I think the Flames could also get a lot for Markstrom and Tanev, especially Markstrom, given the goalie market and the recent Vezina voting.

One I’ve heard from a valid source is that Tkachuk always says the right thing in the media but is different behind closed doors.
I have no idea if Tkachuk was actually open to a long term deal in 2019. If he was though jt likely would have needed to be a huge overpay like Ottawa did for his brother.
Would people have actually wanted Tkachuk on a deal similar to Marner because that’s likely what it would have cost for 8 years…$10M plus.
It’s easy to blame the bridge deal now but that’s what Tampa did with Kucherov and Point. That’s what the islanders did with Barzal. Most of the RFAs that offseason took a bridge.

Oh god, they aren’t going to try a hockey trade and try to stay competitive are they? So dumb.
