For what it’s worth, the Sabres forum on HF has pretty well disabused the notion of wanting Lindholm or Hanifin - it’s futures and cap dumps off the roster.
One of Zary/Pelletier
Coronato
1st
Conditional 1st 22 or 23.
+ cap dumps (Monahan, Zadorov)
That should be enough to overcome the legend of Peyton Krebs.
We keep Bread and Dube.
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Pitlick-Backlund-Coleman
Ritchie-Dube-Mangiapane
Lucic-Richardson-Lewis
That group isn’t falling out of playoff contention.
When Eichel comes back:
Gaudreau-Eichel-Mangiapane
Tkachuk-Lindholm-Dube
Pitlick-Backlund-Coleman
Lucic-Richardson-Lewis
Like, fetch the Krieger gif.

I feel like 4 1sts plus cap dumps is a massive overpay. Not unless both 1sts are conditional on Eichel playing 80 games and scoring 100 points.

Even if it’s an overpay, it’s not that massive - we lose the 4th line centre and 7/8 defenseman from the main roster, keep one of Zary/Pelletier, keep Dube and Mangiapane, and get Eichel back after the Olympics at worst.

Kind of a weird tweet. This sounds like him shoehorning Eichel's name and the Oilers in with his Flames thoughts to try and set up that BoA narrative.
Have a feeling Weekes will break the trade news when it happens.

You mean we get Eichel back after the Olympics at best. At worst, he might never play again – though I admit the chances of that are not large.

I’m into it, and don’t see it as an overpayment.
Pelletier + Zary + 1st + 1st + Monahan + Lucic for Eichel + Eakins (50% retained).
Clears 11.625M in cap-space off this year and next while only subtracting 4th line players, while bringing in Eakins to help keep the team going while Eichel is out.
I think Eichel is worth four firsts IF it includes correcting the cap structure of the team.
Remember back in 2013 - we offered three 1sts to move to 1st overall for Mackinnon. If 4 first round picks gets us Eichel? Do it. Do it. We also have the extra 2nd this year from the Bennett deal to help off-set this years lack of a 1st.

The fastest recovery time I’ve heard for this procedure is 8 weeks - we do the deal now, Eichel could be back as early as the New Year.
If it takes a little longer, he comes back either just before or just after the Olympic break - if he comes back after, he probably has a little extra rehab time than is necessary.

The last time this team was playing this well, we didnt push the needle to get us over the hump.
Zary, Cornato and 1st + Conditional 1st + Any Cap dump(s) we choose.

That's the minimum recovery time until you're clear to do everyday activities. After that, it will take more time for Eichel to recover his fitness and core strength before he can resume playing a contact sport. And it would be silly to count on the minimum time in any case.

Could be. But nothing said so far suggests that Buffalo is willing to help out with anybody's cap structure. (Including their own, because Adams seems utterly oblivious to the fact that he has to take on $5 million in an Eichel trade to stay above the floor.)

I wouldn't be surprised if he hasn't already started surgery prep activities, He's got the best surgeon in the world, probably the best rehabilitation staff at his disposal.

I don’t expect him to be back in 8 weeks.
I think targeting a return for just after the Olympics is more than prudent.
And I’d still do it if all we lose off our roster is Monahan and Zadorov.
I’d send Money to Vegas in a three-way trade to make sure it happens.

The more I think about it, I would be ok with moving Zary. This is only because if one of the present centres are moved, Zary would still be blocked for a minimum of two years. If Monahan or Backlund are moved out in a trade for Eichel, the Flames depth at the position for next year is Eichel/Lindholm/Monahan(Backlund)/Dube. That still allows Darryl to roll four lines.
Zary would be an old man by the time that he got a sniff of top six minutes. You can also lead with telling Buffalo they are getting our best prospect.
Monahan/Backlund
Zadorov (makes the money work, and has been usurped)
Zary
Unprotected 2022 first
Fifth not as shiny prospect

You can’t just add Lucic to the deal. He has a role here and loves it here. He won’t be waiving for Buffalo. I still think Monahan needs to be shifted to a third team to make it work
Monahan+Zadorov+Dube+Zary+1st+2nd
For
Eichel+Eakin
I think for the Flames to close it they may need to give up Dube. Monahan could be flipped to Ottawa or New York. I would hope the Flames could keep Dube but this is a price I would pay.
Here is the forward group I run until Eichel
Gaudreau-Lindholm-Tkachuk
Mangiapane-Backlund-Coleman
Lucic-Eakin-Pitlick
Lewis-Richardson-Ritchie
Eichel comes in and shifts all the centers down a spot. Maybe add a bottom 6 forward or top 6 winger at the deadline.

Throw in another First instead of the 2nd and keep dube, Eakin is a bum and not needed here.

A healthy Eichel is maybe worth four pieces. An Eichel who has a broken neck is worth substantially less. These six piece deals are insane.

A broken necked Eichel who might not play until next season, and may not ever be the same as he was, should not be returning Monahan, two of our top prospects and a 1st round pick.

I expect if CP posters were making this deal it would have been done months ago. Thank goodness Treliving actually knows what he is doing.
