Heck of an interview, too. We'll have something up on him shortly.

Mock Draft sim (draft order) has been updated following the lottery, for those that want to play around a bit too.

I doubt the oilers give us their 3rd this year, but if they do hopefully the Flames can snag Alex Cotton with it.

That's my draft list for our pick, in order. If one of those 6 guys isn't available at our pick then we've advanced very far in the playoffs or there have been a few dramatic reaches above us in the draft.

He's pretty interesting-19yo, but third in team scoring as a D man, pretty stellar numbers. I would be surprised if he lasted past the 2nd....

Just to be safe, we should also draft Hugh Jackman. The name can't miss.

Cool simulator. I took bpa and ended up with a draft of players that weren’t mentioned in the thread at all.
LA passed on byfield and Ottawa took him at 3.

I cant see Mercer dropping down to our range in the 1st round sadly.I'm still high on Quinn and I think he's there at 19.

			@DarrenWHaynes
 Dube (2016), Andersson (2015) — both second-round picks. Same for Kylington (2015).

How many second-round picks have the Flames made since 2016? Zero. In Sutter’s eight years as GM, how many second-round picks did he make? Just two.

The lesson: Stop trading second-round picks.

This is one of those drafts where good players are going to be found in the second round. A couple of posts above, a mock had Jean-Luc Foudy going to the Flames in the second. In a normal draft year, he would be a late first talent.
In the trade thread, a lot of people are hung up on making a move that nets a top 10 pick (and that's fine too), but there are multiple teams sitting on multiple second rounders. Sneaking in on a deal that bags a few of those might pay big dividends this year, as the shortened season put a lot of pressure on scouts to be at the top of their game. And I like the Flames scouting staff.

I could see them giving us this year's third rounder.

Sounds like 97 and 29 aren't too happy with how things are going in Edmonton and probably will really need to make a run next year.

Having a 3rd available at the 2021 trade deadline is more valuable to them in the short term than making the selection in this draft.

I'd actually disagree.

Draft picks never have as much value as they do on the days of the draft, so if the Oilers are looking to improve their team for next year, it would make more sense for them to keep the pick this year to acquire a player at the draft to help them now.

The Oilers need an experienced, character, playoff performer. They should trade for Lucic

If you mean the conditional 3rd as part of the Lucic deal, it was ruled in favor of the Flames.

Yes, but the Oilers can give us this year's or next (they will give us next year's)

Perhaps. Some are not very high on Foudy and think he is getting a boost because of his brother and other aspects of his family genetics.

Craig Button has Foudy at 80.

If you want a 5'11, 175lb forward prospect then it is definitely your year. Defense and goal are much weaker in general.

Not that I disagree with the point that it is a good year to have a 2nd rounder
