So many runners LOB. That was a key reason why we lost. Just didn’t capitalize enough.

Man Yamaguchi is really hittable, doesn't have an out pitch and when misses he misses down the middle. Send him down. I would rather see what SRF can do out of the pen.

Some ugly managing over the weekend, but it is nice to yell at the TV again, haha.

So many frustrations in that game. Oh well, entertaining at least.

Need to find a couple more guys who can get outs out of the pen. After the big 4 in the pen, Giles, Dolis, Bass and Romano, maybe you can add cole to that, but the rest aren't guys you can count on to get outs.
Or Montoyo just has to do a better job of splitting guys up and not using all his high leverage guys at the same time.

Pretty amateur stuff from Montoyo. Rays should feel lucky to take the series, but that's par for the Trop course

I would seriously consider making Nate Pearson the closer if Giles is out for the year.

Yeah, is he this bad normally? (I don't even know who he was with or what his track record is). Because so far he seems to make some head scratching decisions.

I don't know if I would do that he is more valuable as a starter. Plus Romano or Dolis can close. Where is Merryweather and his 100mph fastball.

Merryweather tweaked something during training, but I guess he actually looked good before that happened.

Before he was hired last year he was with the Rays first as a third base coach and then a bench coach. Before that he coached their AAA team for 8 years.

Help, save, whatever.

I didn't watch any games last year but with a lack of sports I needed an early fix so bought the MLB.tv package for this season. I watched the first 3 games and for me the biggest standouts were:
Of all the young guys Vladdy has impressed me the least. I know it's only 3 games but I didn't see any power on display. Hope he can get back to the way he was hyped.
On the whole the team looked patient at the plate and made the Rays' pitchers work for everything.
Romano is going to become a fan favourite if he keeps this up. I love his style on the mound and he legit comes across as psycho. He has an intense look and talks to himself. Rooting for him!

Out camping and was trying to stream the Jays games both through video and audio on Sportsnet now app but seemed blacked out. Is that a thing this season???

I would agree with savemedrzaius’s assessment of Vlad. The fact that he has gained what looks to be a lot of weight at a very young age after being challenged by the coaching staff is pretty disappointing. I’m not sure I see a guy who takes his job very seriously.

Vlad's been a major disappointment so far, that's for sure.
All we can do though, is wait and hope he figures it out, and also hope that guys like Bo, Biggio, Groshans and Martin make it so it doesn't really matter if he figures it out. Then if he does it will be a nice bonus...a cherry on top so to speak.
Also, I have lost all faith in Montoyo, particularly when it comes to managing the pitching staff, especially late in games. Last year he blew up Giles' arm right before the deadline by pitching him three days in a row against the Red Sox when the Jays were nowhere near contention, and the last two days were also a disaster.

Montoyo on Giles: "He was fine. He got the first two outs, like he always does ... His command wasn't there, but he looked fine. He never complained or anything, that's why I thought he was fine the whole time."

Charlie must be blind then. Buck and Dan kept on commenting how something was wrong.
And just like a goalie unless he can barely stand or lift his arm a pitcher is going to want to stay in and battle through it. It's part of a manager's responsibility to make that decision for him.

I'm not a Montoyo fan, because he's often made boneheaded moves with his pitchers (the one job he has). But in this case, the broadcasters are watching on tv's. Montoyo is watching from a further distance than we're seeing on our screens. I'm not absolving him, but some of it is on the pitcher as well if they're feeling pain, as I'm not sure Montoyo would pick that up without looking at the same feed. Anyway, I'm sure he's just here to develop some of the young guys for the next season or two, then when the lineup matures they'll probably hire a veteran guy to get the most from players.
As for Vladdy, of course he's been disappointing. Looking at his body tells the story. I'd normally hold off on critique this early, but the guy has a huge gut, and I don't think the wait and see approach of seeing how he gets better as the season continues, will do. He's not going to get better being so heavy. Call it fat shaming, it doesn't matter. He's just too big.
As for the season, I'm pretty shocked it may end this early. I'd have guessed a month in, but to half a team out this early tells me there's another week left before it goes down the tubes and other teams experience this. MLB doing things wrong again with nobody cooperating.
